40k wsop 2009

Has anyone eard of this,
I myself just heard it today.
There is going to be a new event at this years wsop,its going to be event number two and the buy in will be 40,000.
Interested to see the future of the wsop when that becomes incorporated.

40k? why in the world would they do this? kinda weird, not sure if im a fan of this or not...why not just keep with the standard

Harrahs has said that its a one-time event for this year. The Main Event is still $10K buy-in.

There are rumours that this will be the biggest prize they've had at the series. 10mill+. I hope this doesn't mean some of the pro's will opt out of the main event (a piddling 10K!) for this. Guessing that most of the pro players will play all the big games, but the first year they offered the 50K HORSE tourney, a couple of big names spent the tournament concentrating on that instead, not wanting to burn out early.
The main 10K event will still attract all the semi-pro players and amateurs with too much spare money though. Its never going to be short of takers! Still trying to get a ticket through the Full Tilt double knockout games!

this is more of a field for the pro's (or rich kids) is what i herd. but yeah the 40th anniversery sounds mint. Cant wait to watch sum of the highlights!!

At least ESPN are showing this. Really disappointed in the schedule. Only showing 4 events, I think, this year, all NL.

Hope it is more than 4 events, surely they will cover more than that. I have just recently heard of the 40 k but beleive it will be a great event. Wish I had it I would definately play. And as far as affecting the Main Event I dont see it. Not anymore than just the overwhelming turnout every year of Moneymaker wannabes already makes it a crapshoot. The 40k will be more like the games of old where only the serious players and the extremely rich will be involved.

Champions Invitational
Ante up for Africa
Main Event

Also 2 episodes for each day of the ME so 8 day 1 episodes which smacks of a lot of human interest stories.

Sucks, but they're trying to appeal to the casual viewer.

Well I'd be really surprised if top prize is $10 Mil in the $40K, because they only got 337 players in the $25K WPT Championship. Even if they got the same number of players in the $40K, the prize pool would be almost $13.5 Mil but $10 Mil of that would not go to 1st. They would need alot more players for that to happen, and I just don't see it.

Not sure about 10 Mil for first...but I am willing to bet they get a significant amount greater than the WPT event

yeah lol it wont be, maybe he ment the prize pool would be 10m?
