in 4 hours playin 1/2NL live..

I made 270$. which really isn't bad, playing 1/2 NL live. Bought in with 100$ (against a feild of people buying in for 200) and never went all in against anyone (except once, which i will explain later)

I'd have won alot more money too, had a guy across from me not called 25$ bets with a gutshot draw. What happened was this: I am dealt ATo, and he is dealt KQo. I raise to 7$. The flop comes AJ4 rainbow. I lead off with my top pair for 10$ as a feeler. I get 1 caller who says "i'll just get a 10 and win." Knowing i have 1 of the 4 tens, i think i have a good hand to win money from this guy. I bet 25$ on the turn when its a blank. And he calls. The river is a 10 of spades. Dammit he hit his gutshot! whats more, the 10 of spades happens to be the last 10 in the deck because the guy to my left has JT, and the guy to his left folded 3T. I know he hit, but i bet 25$ on the off chance he didn't (I now had 2 pair) and he raised me 200$ more, so i rightly laid it down, and he showed me KQ.

Later, i got back at him though. I was dealth AA and made the bet 15. He comes over the top of me for 100$ more. (he has ~300 in front of him after that point) and i immidiately say All in (about 200 more) He thinks for a second and folds. I just muck my aces with a smile.

What horrible etiquette! I can't stand players who talk about their hands while it's being played! I hope the dealer admonished him for that behavior. What a jerk. And of course, you really have no way of knowing if he's lying or not. Given his statement though (arse!), you probably should have checked down the river. I would have given him a piece of my mind though for sure.

Yeah, he did it throughout the game. I agree that last bet was stupid on my part, but oh well. Another time I was dealt AJ, and the flop came KJJ and he bet 10, a raise of 20 more from the guy on his left, and then I raised to 50 straight. The guy (mr. gutshot) said "i'll just draw an ace and draw out on you" and called. the initial raiser folded. The river was an ace, and he bet 50$ into me, when i raised to 100 he called and flipped over his straight - and I flipped over my boat. But the guy would do that the entire time, and honestly, no one said anything ot him about it. Not the dealer, or other players.

I can't believe that no one said anything to him. At the casino that I go to on occassion, there are some regular old codgers that play, and believe me, they would definitely have a hissy fit. If not, at least they would give you the evil eye!

I love that you totally busted him w/ the boat. Ahhh, sweet justice! I'm sure you must have felt a great deal of satisfaction. What a moron that guy was!

If he was normally giving actual information about the cards that he needed, then I'm not surprised that nobody said anything - because it's the easiest tell of them all... of course if he proves to be sometimes lying, then complain.

1/2 has been great to me too. I had good reads on 4-5 of the guys at my table. One calling station, one chased every flush draw to the turn and then folded if it missed, one solid tight-agg player, one manical loose-aggressive. So I just slowly built my money off of legitamite hands vs the calling station and missed flush draws off the chaser. The manical loose guy left before I got a decent hand to bust him off of. But all is well, the first night I went I ended up about like you. The second night I got insanely lucky and turned 130~ish into 700 in 2 hands and left.

I love live 1/2 NL

i went to a different casino about 2 weeks ago, and bought in for 100 at a 1/2 nl table. I played tight aggressive to smell out the table. When finally after waiting a round i was dealt Rockets. I raised strong preflop... 15 straight (seems to be my standard big pair raise...) and i get 3 callers. Flop comes all undercards, but not super cooridnated and the player utg bets 50, and i push the rest of mine in. Just us, he flips over a pair of jacks, and i flip up aces. They hold up, and i've more than doubled. About 4 hands go by, and i'm dealt the black aces. This time i raise to 7, and get reraised to 40 (by this point my stack is around 220). I push all in, and the guy calls me without hesitation. He flips over kings and i flip over aces. Before the cards are dealt out two people both say "oh sorry man, i had a king" and he's drawing dead. I double up again.

Fast forward about 30 minutes. I'm in the small blind with 10/6 of spades. I'm able to limp in for 1 more dollar and tell the dealer "match these cards please" and Tc6c4s comes out. Long story short, i sucked almost another 200$ from the guy with my two pair against his Ace/Ten. Made 650$ in less than 1 hour, and went home.

im scared to go back often, because i know my second encounter was lucky. i know that if i keep playing like i should ill be okay, it just makes me nervous because i have a very limited experience with live poker.

That is an excellent point. Hadn't thought of it that way. As long as it was his actual hand he's talking about, then sure, it would behoove you to keep your mouth shut!
