Is 3-D Poker the wave of the future?

I was looking into some 3-D style online poker rooms out there.. One of the lamest I've seen was Live 3D Poker.

Anyways, I came upon Pjpoker.com and it looks really good!
It's still in playable Beta stage, but I can see this becoming pretty popular... love their winning animations.

So, here's a thought... Are Online 3-D Poker Games the next big thing?

Pacific PokerPacific Poker is the poker room for 888.com casino and is still a favourite, especially amongst new players. They recently updated their software with a sleek and smooth new look which is much better to play.

PPParty Poker is the premier online poker games site. The Party Poker bonus codes like CC500 offer a special $500 deposit bonus.

Nope, the next big thing is 100's of wannabe sites coming up with different gimmicks to try and tap into the increasingly saturated poker market, failing dismally, and then going kaput with their players money. Stick to one of the established sites, and let other people take the risk and effort playing on these Beta test sites. When they are established, then's the time to give them a go, but too many are going under at the moment (see Stacks Poker).

To be honest 3D poker is a complete waste of time to me.

On sites such as PartyPoker, PokerRoom etc i never bothered with the 'people'.

The idea of 3d poker is surely just to games arcade it up a bit, would it improve the style, standard, quality of play in any way at all? I can't see it.

Would the computer engine required be over run making hard for the older machines to join in - probably.

I dont see the need for it, dont want it - wouldnt bother making it

I didn't want to download Stacks because I still have dial-up and knew it would be a frustrating waste of my time. Maybe if I had broadband I would have. So on that note, I really don't have an opinion one way or the other. I guess actually I'm with Ian on this one (ok, maybe I do have and opinion).

P.S. Moving this to Poker General.

If you are looking for a 3-D poker room that is established then check out TruePoker.com. There are avatar downloads that have many different ones in them. It is an ok poker site that is a little hard to maneuver around in because of its different file window, but overall a pretty good site. I havnt played there for a long time now, but a site you should check out

truepoker = crap....
sorry JD i just hate that site - it's got to have some of the worst players on the internet there. (though maybe thats a good thing?)
Plus the 3D graphics are terrible...just my opinion though

akk.. i couldn't stand truepoker... i don't even think they're real time 3d. they're mostly pre-rendered animations.
i had several errors in the middle of download as well.
pjpoker.com is definitely real time 3d b/c it has a button that gives different camera angles on the fly, including first person POV.

It might be pointless, but it's still cool, just to see your chip stack grow in front of you.

stacks has not responded to any of my emails asking if they've gone under, and that combined with Nick's assertion that they have folded, leads me to believe that they are done for, unless they can find someone with a couple million to spare for an unproven comodity. Still, if you ever had the chance to play there, it was pretty cool. A novelty granted, but if such a site could get started i think they might do well.

There is a new site that I believe is serious about the whole 3d movement but I'm not going to name them or hold my breath until I see real progress and not false promises. I'll let you know if they ever end up going live.

PKR, the Jez San site?

I know it's stating the obvious, but pokersites need players. Can have all the fancy gimmicks in the world, but no players = no revenue. I think you need a client bank b4 you can succesfully launch a new site nowadays.

Yea that's the one, they sent me an email today with some information but I'm not gonna pass judgement yet because Stacks did the same numerous times.

As much as I like the "look" of PKR, I can't see the game being very player-friendly, especially most of us weened on pacific poker and such. One problem I see with PKR is it would result in a slow game.

Unlike Pacific, whose software is flawless and incredibly speedy of course!

Anyway, I don't really care much about this 3D crap except that 3D = attracts donks = +EV = $$$

I just went to try the beta of pjpoker for some late-night drunk poker
but already ran into some problems...
it won't even let me log in yet.
Little things like this are what turn me off in terms of having respect for a new company.

Apart from only being able to pick an avatar (that wasnt used in play - i guess that was still in ultra-beta mode) it reminded me more of the Pokerroom site set up.

No flying chips or bald dealers (as i think the advert had) but names in boxes followed by either chip numbers or 'sitting out'

hmmm... did it use a default avatar?

the male stacks characters looked rather... bald, stumpy
wondered if the females looked bald and stumpy... err, like real life.

I did manage to download the PJ Poker beta and it looks and plays pretty well. I have to say this is one of the better 3D poker games with some simple interface and not annoying like Truelive3Dpoker

What's up with that ninja in truelive3Dpoker? I get sick of hearing all the sounds...

I guess every poker game needs a ninja?

Stacks is dead? Man, I didn't even get to try the beta... oh well.
