2009 WSOP Predictions Well, it's that time a year again. Can you believe the 2009 WSOP is about to start? And while satellites start today, and the Casino Employees Event #1 begins Wednesday, things really get going on Thursday with the $40,000 NLHE Event #2 buy in. More or less a ME for Pros only (or any saps that have $40K lying around). But I'm back again with my annual WSOP Predictions thread. Just went back and looked at the 2008 version. Some decent predictions in there but ultimately we all fell way short. Remember, this is just for fun. Not interested in action on these. But feel free to generate your own amongst yourselves. At the end of the series, I'll come back and bump up the thread with results. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the WSOP, I've done 40 predictions this year, and now in no particular order.... 1 Main Event will have less than 6,844 2 40K event will have less than 315 3 Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier wins a bracelet 4 Phil Ivey wins a bracelet 5 Phil Hellmuth does not win bracelet #12 6 Phil Gordon does not win a bracelet 7 No women make the Main Event Final Table 8 A woman will win a bracelet (other than Ladies Event) 9 Johnny Chan wins bracelet #11 10 Doyle Brunson wins bracelet #11 11 Chris Moneymaker makes Day 5 of the ME 12 Greg Raymer makes Day 2 of the ME 13 Joe Hachem makes Day 2 of the ME 14 Jamie Gold makes Day 2 of the ME 15 Jerry Yang makes Day 2 of the ME 16 Peter Eastgate makes Day 3 of the ME 17 Daniel Negreanu does not win a bracelet 18 Vanessa Rousso wins a bracelet 19 Jeff Madsen wins his 3rd bracelet 20 Tom Dwan makes 2 final tables 21 Shaun Deeb wins a bracelet 22 Phil Galfond wins his 2nd bracelet 23 Someone wins more than 1 bracelet 24 Mike Matusow wins bracelet #4 25 Erik Seidel wins bracelet #9 26 Billy Baxter wins bracelet #8 27 Chris Ferguson wins bracelet #6 28 Allen Cunningham does not win a bracelet 29 Rafi Amit wins his 3rd bracelet 30 Jesper Hougaard wins his 3rd bracelet 31 Barry Greenstein wins the $50K HORSE bracelet 32 There will be over 5800 players in the "Stimulus Special" Event #4 33 The Main Event final table will have 2 named pros 34 Andy Bloch finally wins a bracelet 35 A named pro wins the Main Event 36 A Russian will win a bracelet 37 One of the 2008 ME November Nine makes it to the 2009 ME November Nine 38 Annie Duke makes one final table 39 Men "The Master" Nguyen cashes 4 or more times 40 Michael Binger cashes 7 or more times

LOL - I just looked up last year's thread. I made nine predictions and whiffed on all but two. Here's hoping I do better this year! - Barry Greenstein will make the final table of the $50K HORSE. Again. - Tom Dwan will play less than 15 events - Phil Hellmuth will make at least two final tables - So will Mike Matusow - David Ulliott won't make any final tables - The Main Event will get more entrants than last year - PokerStars will have their logo on more Main Event final table participants than any other site - Jimmy Fricke will make more money than Howard Lederer during the series - Hell, Jimmy Fricke will win a bracelet - No member of Team Full Tilt or Team Poker Stars will make it to the final five tables of the $1K NLHE event - Phil Ivey won't win a bracelet - Tiffany Michelle won't cash in the Main Event - Phil Gordon will make one final table. Just one - Tobey Maguire will cash in the Main Event - Jason Alexander won't - Brad Garrett won't cash in the Main Event, but will get a ton of TV time anyway - Marco Traniello will finish the series having won more than Jennifer Harman And because I'd better make good on the predictions I promised to make last year: - Jean-Robert Bellande will act like a douche and not win a bracelet - David Sklansky will be reported doing something creepy - At least one Full Tilt Pro will end the series down six figures in publicised golfing prop bets

Indeed. Somehow think I'm gonna be relying on Dr Pauly a lot more than Poker News for actually reporting it though Now c'mon, where's everyone else's predictions? You've got nothing to lose but your credibility and dignity people!

Seems there were only two of us making predictions this year, but just to check the results now the series is all but over (and none of my results are affected by the November Nine outcome) I got: - Barry Greenstein will make the final table of the $50K HORSE. Again. WRONG - Tom Dwan will play less than 15 events CORRECT (AFAIK) - Phil Hellmuth will make at least two final tables WRONG (six cashes, no final tables) - So will Mike Matusow WRONG (one cash, no final tables) - David Ulliott won't make any final tables CORRECT (one cash, no final tables) - The Main Event will get more entrants than last year WRONG (damn you Day 1D debacle...) - PokerStars will have their logo on more Main Event final table participants than any other site WRONG (Full Tilt seems to have locked that honour up) - Jimmy Fricke will make more money than Howard Lederer during the series WRONG (Lederer $101,500, Fricke $18,099 according to Hendon Mob - Gobbo let me down) - Hell, Jimmy Fricke will win a bracelet WRONG - No member of Team Full Tilt or Team Poker Stars will make it to the final five tables of the $1K NLHE event CORRECT - Phil Ivey won't win a bracelet EPIC FAIL - Tiffany Michelle won't cash in the Main Event CORRECT (don't think she even played) - Phil Gordon will make one final table. Just one WRONG (unless I blinked and missed it) - Tobey Maguire will cash in the Main Event WRONG - Jason Alexander won't CORRECT - Brad Garrett won't cash in the Main Event, but will get a ton of TV time anyway CORRECT (well... I'm assuming the TV time bit) - Marco Traniello will finish the series having won more than Jennifer Harman WRONG ($8061 vs $79,218 on Hendon Mob - d'oh!) And because I'd better make good on the predictions I promised to make last year: - Jean-Robert Bellande will act like a douche and not win a bracelet CORRECT - David Sklansky will be reported doing something creepy erm... never found the report, but I haven't read NWP in ages either. So I'm gonna go with CORRECT :P - At least one Full Tilt Pro will end the series down six figures in publicised golfing prop bets AFAIK, WRONG Final tally: 8 / 20 Wow, I sucked so bad this year

Yeah, I have to update mine, but some are still in play pending November's finish. I think Dwan only played 3 events. You are right that Tiffany Michelle didn't play the ME. She claims to have had a good acting opportunity or something. Uh huh, didn't have anything to do with her not cashing in the 15 or so events she played in. Gordon only played in 2 events total. I was surprised the golfing prop bets didn't come through for you.
