2007 WSOP Main Event Discussion Thread - POST HERE (May Contain Spoilers)
Obv the 2007 ME is drawing a lot of attention as always. The other thing it is doing is creating a ton of new threads that all center around the same topic (WSOP ME). TBH, they are getting to be a slight pain to keep up with, much less to keep track of similar posts started by people that just want to start threads and not bother searching. While starting threads is fine and is part of what the forum is about, as this continues on, it's going to be just as annoying as 561789325 it's rigged threads.
So, going forward, please begin posting ALL WSOP ME discussions in here. It will make it easier for everyone to keep up on the goings on, allow for more discussion on individual posts, will keep the clutter down in the forum in general, and will avoid posting spoilers (that some people want nothing to do with) in vaguely titled threads. As this is a new request, any new threads posted will either be closed or merged into this one. Thanks. Begin.... ![]() |

Gus made what everyone is calling a sick call which was how he first got the big stack.
He was on the button and raised, SB called and the BB shoved with 50,000. It was 47,000 to Gus. He went into the tank and finally called with 22. SB folded and BB had AJ. The 2s held and that put Gus over 200K. Gus' opponent when he first saw Gus' hand said "That was a sick call". Overheard in the room after the hand "I'm not sure if Gus is the biggest donkey in the world or my hero". What's sickest to me about the call is that the absolute best he can be is a coin flip and could easily be dominated. We will now see internet players all over calling big raises with 22. |

I believe Gus is 20th now (updated about 10 ago) with around 1270000 chips.
The other notables that I saw still alive were (not in any order) Chad Brown, Huck Seed, Thor Hansen, Scotty Nguyen, Humberto Brenes, and Robert Varkonyi. I might have missed some pros... I just browsed the names. Quote:

Gus Hansen was all but out the door when he ran into QQ vs his 1010 preflop for all his chips. He spiked a 10 on the flop to stay alive, and increase his chip stack. After the 10 hit Hansen just said "wow, that's sick!" You gotta love Gus!

Humberto Brenes went out in 83rd when his AK ran into AA.
Gus Hansen has taken some hits and is near the back of the pack with around 540000 chips. And Scotty Nguyen is now in third with around 3600000 chips. Gotta love that, baby! ![]() |

Why is the WSOP main even less Popular this year?
I have a few theories
1: poker is losing popularity 2: with the European poker tour and Asian poker tour gaining ground, non-US players are finding it unnecessary to travel all the way too the US for a major poker tournys 3: less online satellite entrees because of the online poker ban in the US Anyone have any thoughts on this? |

By forcing the online sites to give out their WSOP packages in equivalent cash rather than direct buyin, the WSOP pretty much assured that this years field would shrink, and truthfully, it needed to. Many players who won sattys into this years ME opted to take the 12k and stay home. OK for them, in their places I'd prolly make the same choice. I think, however, that this is a far cry from a death knell for poker. |

Here is my prediction for the Final Table:
David Tran Philip Hilm Hevad Khan Scott Freeman Kenny Tran Tuan Lam Lee Watkinson Jason Welch Daniel Alaei Even though I'd love to see Scotty make it, I've seen some gambling like plays from him, and I think he'll get caught. |
