$1500 + $80, tips needed

That's the entry fee for the WPT Super Sat that I won entry to.
So, has anyone played in anything similar? Is the level of play going to be crazy good? I am used to exploiting weak players for my wins-- is there going to be anything to exploit in these?

While we are at it, any tips for satellite play in general? I would think that the bubble strategy changes somewhat as compared to a money/cash bubble....
Anyone care to comment?

Seriously just play your game; if you're not good enough to compete against the higher skilled players, you could always get lucky. I think just keeping it simple and playing your best game is key. One thing's for sure, this is going to be an experience of a lifetime and it'll be tons of fun.

yeah dont change your game at all. you are a solid player, just play it as much like 25nl as you can. getting worried and becoming tight-weak is the worst thing you can do. if anything you might open up your range and play LAG for the first few orbits to get the jitters out, since blinds are so cheap. being reckless > being tight-weak in a situation like that.

What they said. The experience that you are going to gain will be worth it no matter what. Just play your game, focus, and be as observant as you can. I would think that it's going to be tougher to put people on a range of hands at that level, so just be observant and play your game.

just play like u do any other time dont get nervous and dont play stupid hands play tight you will do fine

Yeah, ending up playing weak tight is kind of a fear of mine.

I want to do everything I can to avoid that.

Don't set your expectations too high and think to yourself that you have nothing to lose. I don't know how good you are, but realistically an average player would have a slim chance of beating all these high stakes players to get into the money unless they got really lucky. Try to take advantage of people's unwillingness to go out early by playing ultra-aggressive and shoving on people in early rounds, which will help you build a stack since no-one wants to take risks early on when they'll be crippled if they lose.

The way I see it, if youre good enough to get there...youre good enough to play there. Watch your position and be agressive when your hands warrant it. and above all...DONT CHASE DRAWS!!!

If you could find a local live MTT, it might be a good opportunity to experience the slow plodding pace of live play.
It would be bad for you to go on tilt cause the excitement was too slow paced.
Have some sort of distraction, Ipod, or cassette player or somesuch.
At 1500 and a sanctioned event you should probably expect it to last multiple days!
Of all the poker tips I have read, the one that works best for me on those rare occasions that I do good in a MTT it is the tip about not even playing the first orbit. Just watch. Get a feel for how it goes, who is doing what to whom and when. You know this drill. For me getting AA first hand is a most unpleasant experience. Much prefer 72o first hand. But it happens every now and then that you get the big hand early.

This is when a willingness to cowardess will come in handy. I have been thinking about this for about a week now, and realize that a willingness to cowardess is a necessary component to sucessful MTT survival. Think of the alternative. You make a move, he makes a move back at you and poof, its all toast! More common expression of this is the willingness to lay down the winning hand.

You are the one that beat 300 or so players, all of whom came from Poker chat forums. None of your opponents have done that. From what i've read about Vegas satellites, the standard doesn't seem very strong, so i'd go there full of confidence if i was in your situation.
