Would you make this call UTG?
Seat 1: WSIDEWAYNE
Seat 2: RANANCULUS (dealer) Seat 4: HIGHEARLY (small blind) Seat 6: DANOKW (big blind) Seat 7: JB7066 Seat 8: TWIZZYBOP Seat 9: ZIPPYDO111 Dealt to TWIZZYBOP [As Ah] JB7066 - Calls $30 TWIZZYBOP - Raises $150 to $150 ZIPPYDO111 - Folds WSIDEWAYNE - Calls $150 RANANCULUS - Folds HIGHEARLY - Folds DANOKW - Folds JB7066 - Calls $120) (9c 8s) I'll show you the outcome after wards but I also know blinds relatively smal, yet isn't UTG a dangerous position to make such a call? Now reason why they called this: Doyle Brunson would call it with those cards(Hence if Doyle does it why can't I reasoning).. . |

He's obv a donk who's been watching too much WPT. If it was 98s or a low pair, with a lot of previous pots being unraised preflop, and if he folds to the raise fine, but that's just stupid.

Yet it is stupid.. however.. I have seen a bunch of pre-flop raises called with this and that. So losing with a premium hand is getting easier and easier to swallow..
*** FLOP *** [Qc Js 10d] JB7066 - Checks TWIZZYBOP - All-In $3075 WSIDEWAYNE - Folds JB7066 - All-In $1635 TWIZZYBOP - returned ($1440) : not called *** TURN *** [Qc Js 10d] 10♠ *** RIVER *** [Qc Js 10d 10s] Q♠ *** SHOW DOWN *** JB7066 - Shows [9c 8s] (Straight, eight to queen) TWIZZYBOP - Shows [As Ah] (Two Pairs, aces and queens) JB7066 Collects $3765 from main pot *** SUMMARY *** Total Pot($3765) Board [Qc Js 10d 10s Qs] Seat 1: WSIDEWAYNE Folded on the FLOP Seat 2: RANANCULUS (dealer) Folded on the POCKET CARDS Seat 4: HIGHEARLY (small blind) Folded on the POCKET CARDS Seat 6: DANOKW (big blind) Folded on the POCKET CARDS Seat 7: JB7066 won Total ($3765) All-In HI $3765) with Straight, eight to queen [9c 8s - B:Qs,B:Js,B:10s,P:9c,P:8s] Seat 8: TWIZZYBOP HI:lost with Two Pairs, aces and queens [As Ah - P:As,P:Ah,B:Qs,B:Qc,B:Js] Seat 9: ZIPPYDO111 Folded on the POCKET CARDS Now I could have seen JJ's, QQ's or KK's busting me but that hand UTG.. I just couldn't stop laughing especially when he said Doyle Brunson would call that. I remarked that he is a professional, knows the game, reads of his oppenents et-cetra. But to call cause Doyle Brunson would is ridiculous. |

online poker:
i think we are guilty of making the assumption that everyone is there to play a considered, reasoned game of poker for all we know the opponent may be sat naked balancing a pineapple on their head in which case calling 89 offsuit would be relatively sane anno |

Well the beautiful thing about poker is there is no absolute right way to play the game or each individual hand. Simply put there are BAD,GOOD, or BEST ways to play. More often than not players call preflop raises very loosely when the blinds are small when generally the best way is just the opposite tight early loose later. I really used to think this was more of an online phenomenon but I have been playing a lot more live and the play is the same, VERY loose early, if not worse than online. Anyways if a player is willing to enter hands where they are quite likely to be a huge underdog well it's their money and we need to adjust. I have found in tournament play the BEST way to play is live to fight another hand early and wait till the blinds actually mean something and then you can use your skill advantage to maximum effect.
