| Worth 3betting flop for information? One thing that catches me a lot are sets when I have overpairs. A lot of time if I have QQ for example and flop come 842. If I bet and get raised should I 3bet small and fold if they shove? 100b deep |

| I know this isn't about 3betting but a good place to start and think about. The whole "raising for information" shebang |

| Tends to be very opponent specific this situation, it used to cost me a bomb because id stack with anyone but i think when you can realise the nits arent raising you here without sets most of the time then you can cut your losses a bit, but its still a tricky situation against some players. Sets are hard to make and if your opponent is the type to stack with overpairs under QQ and some top pair top kicker hands like the common fish, then dont worry about running into sets once in a while. |

| re: Worth 3betting flop for information? poker I know the whole raising for information thing is controversial but I feel it has saved me money. I can't 3bet for value because it does fold out worse hands, even like tptk might fold. I am not bluffing either when I have an overpair. It just seems like calling isn't going to get me much value either. If I call a raise my hand isn't likely to improve and if he has the set I will call to the river and my whole stack will be in anyway and I found that is where I lose most of my money doing this. At 10nl if I 3bet pretty much everything goes away except sets so I can save like half my stack. I find when I don't know where I am in a hand I can lose big money, but if I know where I am I feel more in control so I don't mind putting some money in for information. I know it doesn't happen lots Acky but when it does it costs a BI or 2.5 BIs if I am playing deep. I still haven't got over my set paranoia lol |

| what ? Quote:
You win money with the best hand in two ways: 1. People fold to your value bet and you win the pot 2. People with worse hands call you You can't seriously win money by calling with one pair hand, because you are giving your opponent a chance to catch... I will fold or shove all in depending on my read. |

| re: Worth 3betting flop for information? poker I used to bet for information there's even a post at CC where I mentioned it and got some good advice. I only bet for value, bluff or dead money (which is a bit of both). The information is in the villain's response. A fish will call if he has a card higher than the highest card in the flop or a pair or a draw, you are ahead usually although they tend to slowplay big hands. So you'll win some and loose some with them. A aggro fish will raise you and raise you and raise you again until you get all his stash, not information though, just his stash most of the time but who cares about information when you can get his stash, right? A regular will shove or fold. You get a lot of information but not that much value. You won't be getting value from regulars usually anyway. I have a hand to review that is pretty much what you showed here, but TT instead of QQ. When I review it I'll post it here. If the board isn't scary I'll raise. My next action depends on the information I get. |
