It’s pretty much a wash assuming the frequency of your monster hands running into better monster hands = frequency of your monster hands running into worse monster hands. If you were the guy with the QQ, you would have lost less had you been sitting with a shorter stack.

I sit down with 75 blinds. It works for me and I’ll keep doing it.

So if the gentleman with AA had a $5.00 stack instead of $1.88 what would he of won HMMMMM..

Our better off becoming adept to playing multiple stack sizes. I know a lot of people who have made a killing short-stacking. I primarily play 60-75BB buy-ins online and 200-300BB buy-ins live.

Simply playing 100BB because that is the online standard (when in fact that buy-in size was arbitrarily decided by the rooms) in order to maximize winnings is flawed.

Play a stacksize that allows you to maximize winning in a variety of situations.

EDIT - But yes, 20BB short stackers piss me off to no end, but that's because they make it difficult for me to maximize my winnings with 60-75BB stacks.

For what it's worth, I was showing my girlfriend how to play online the other night, and I got stacked at a microstakes table. I automatically bought back in for 50 cents (instead of the table max of 80 cents) and saw AA looking at me. I doubled through someone, but ... man. I knew immediately what I had left on the table. Or not on the table, I guess.

SS players have advantages over us deep stacked players for sure. They sometimes gain fold equity when it's 3 players on the flop and one bets the other of his hand. The SS gains some equity without having to risk anything. grrrr They can also apply alot of preflop pressure on deepstack players with a almost playable hand lol.

It is alot simpler decisions as most of your money will be in after the flop betting. You can have a simple strategy in play and follow it to a tee and probably do ok in some pretty tough games.

Why anybody would want to bother SS is beyond me. It is totally boring and is not really playing poker. I like playing poker, thats where the fun is.

Fine about the boring part, though I would have to wonder, are you playing for the rush of gambling or to make profit? There is a reason they call it grinding.

As for not being poker, huh? That's like saying heads up play isn't poker or, as some poker author said in the 70's, "A high low split game? Come now, will you ever see a professional poker player playing a split game? You may as well ask them to play with wild cards. These games aren't even poker." If that's how a guy is able to maximize his profit, then he is absolutely playing poker the way he should. Just because you look down on ss doesn't mean its wrong or not poker.

All your doing is waiting for small preflop edges and then pushing them hard. You play pretty much the same range of hands and learn nothing about developing a total game. Not a bad way to build up a bit of a bankroll but it does not do alot for developing any skill. Kind of stunts your growth as you wont have to make any real decisions on the flop.

I do not play much, if any cash, but I have been watching our new member pokerpoopy on his live feed and watching his tables on PS, and I see how SSing has it's merits.

If you are only playing up to, say, 6 tables, I feel that buying in full to maximize your profit on your big hands is the way to go. You can focus more on your post-flop decisions and make less mistakes. (if you are a decent player of course...)

If you are mass tabling, I can see where SSing can be beneficial. More of your BR spread over more tables, quicker decisions, and a simplified post-flop strategy.

So I guess it depends on what you feel is working best for you and how many tables/what bankroll level you're playing.

Both strats have their merits.

Why I usually sit with a less than full stack is that very rarely am I all in. And when there is an all in, I am usually in a wash situation—two big hands up against one another. The number of times I am ahead vs. the times I am behind is about even. And against the maniac shovers, they are usually short stackers anyway, so I don’t stand to win more with 100BB vs. 75BB.

Lately, given how badly I’ve been running, if I had been using 100BB and auto-refills, I would be down way more than I am.

I agree while playing many tables I think it does just help make decisions easier just because you have less at stake. If you have the time to focus and play then always full stack it for the opertunity to get it all in with the nuts.

Easier said than done. It's rare that you get the nuts; and when you do have it, the other guy will need to have a big hand too or be an idiot to call off his stack.

The one advantage where the large stack does come in is that you can bluff villain off a marginal hand as you have more to bet with. On the other hand, that also makes your decision tougher against a potential bluff as you stand to lose more if he is actually not bluffing.

For situations where both hold big enough hands to stack off, it's gonna be a wash. You may win more on the ones you win, but you'll also lose more on the ones you lose.

Play .01-.02 $2.00 stack play it tight as hell...and good luck i would recomend 9player sit&goes $1.20 is your best bet for only $20.00 i started with $50.00 and got it up to $200.00 on 9 player sit&goes $1.20 then switched to .01-.02 Fr Nl full stack with 100 buy-in rule
