In this instance, not neccessarily. Depending on how much you raised, the BB could just be calling to see a flop. Then, betting on you not having an ace, bets out. At this point, this is when reading your opponent comes into play. If you think he called with an ace, get out. If not, you may want to actually raise back at your opponent. You should also take factors like the pot size and the size of your opponent's bet before making this decision.

depends on the range of hands BB would call with and the amount he bets out on the flop. Also depends on your action pre-flop. A decent player may bet to represent the ace to steal the pot if you don't have one. But if the BB hasn't demonstrated much skill I would take his bet to mean what he is representing and fold.

Obviously you fold when he's got an A, but not when he doesn't. Oh, that doesn't really help, does it. There's certainly no easy answer, but don't be afraid to fold the best hand. If you suspect he would have raised your pre-flop bet with an A and decent kicker, you could try to represent an A yourself with a decent raise. If he calls you might need to slow it down, and probably need to fold to a re-raise. I'm not particularly fond of 10's and J's because they tend to result in an overcard on the flop. And it seems like everyone is infatuated with KQ and A-10.

No, its not an auto laydown. This is when your play becomes read dependent. If you use tracking software you can see how often the villain is donk leading the flop. If its high, then likely he is going to be leading this flop with a lot of pocket pairs, absolute bluffs, and second pair.

If you regularly dump your hand when you have not improved on the flop, or are looking at a scare card, then savvy opponents will start to exploit this and it will cost you chips and pots. If you regularly hold on to a hand that is plainly beat by one or more players, based on their betting patterns and raising patterns, then that, too will be exploitable -- and will cost you chips.

I can't tell you what to do on any particular hand, without a ton of information, and whatever I suggest might not work out. Maybe the other guy is bluffing/representing the Ace; maybe he has pocket rockets. No guess is going to be 100% correct. The only sure thing hand is a flopped royal...

What I would do in that situation is if no one has raised again, go all in on the turn, if he has an Ace let it be if not he will fold automatically.

but then u wont get anywhere even in micro stakes everyone slow plays like ur signature sais slow play the best hand..
i'd bet 3 blinds up to river if u got chips if he folds u had better hand and if he has ace u dont loose much(don't bet 3 BB wen u got 10k in a 500/1000 game...or when u short though )

re: When to lay it down poker

Usually though people don't call pre-flop with aces, at least not good opponents, they re-raise pre-flop. Re-raise him and see what he does.

Try calling some of the time in position to see what he does on the turn.

Thanks Guys, I used this Last night in a tournament where i was pretty deep and had a stack of 60k and the guy to my right had around 100k. I had a good read that he would raise with most Aces. He Raised pre flop and I called with pocket tens. Flop Came 4 Q 8 Rainbow he put in a Bet Of half the pot So i feeling i was in the best position, I came back over the top of him putting in a bet of around 3 times his original bet. He folded.

Nicely done. When you get a good read on someone, you have to be willing to follow through on the betting. Which you did.

there's is no way i'm getting away from this hand here. what type of hands does the BB call wih here? if he has a big ace i would think he'd want to reraise preflop as he got a strong hand OOP. but lets say he just calls with his AK don't you think he would try to induce a bet from you by checking? i give "donk" bets very little credit for a hand. especially if the board has possible draws. i find lots of people lead out with draws hoping to set a good price for themselves. on this board there are lots of cards you dont like to see on the turn so id go ahead and reraise here and be done with the hand if called an unapproved on turn or reraised here. if however i had a strong holding id smooth call here to see what they do on the turn. as a matter of fact i reraise here with air here too. i would venture to guess they dont have a hand that will call a raise here 90% of the time.

in heads up play ive always heard that any pair is normally good so pocket jacks in that situation with a min raise preflop, if the bb bets the flop he is more than likely not thinking right ((if u had a great hand 2 pair and such u wouldnt bet right then)) but then again it depends on who your playing and alot of other factors but normally if it smells like crap and looks like crap its probably crap... hope that helps a little... good luck and see you at the tables

re: When to lay it down poker

Card player i can't give you a read on the players as it is a hypothetical question. but if it was a drawy board i would be betting that ace like no tommorow, last thing i need is some one hitting a draw for free. The thing about an Ace is it is part of(at micro stakes) alot of villains Armour, Where it probably wouldnt at higher stakes.
