When do you start to push? I am currently in a $1 MTT on PokeStars and am $2000 below the average stack. I have 3200 in chips and the average is $4800. Blinds are 75/150. That puts my M at 14 At what point do you start to push more hands or do you keep playing patient poker until your M gets under 10? P.S. As I type this I just won two pots and am now at 5000 in chips (400 under the average) - blinds are 100/200 - 242/540

I think that pushing with an M of 10 is not the best play by far. At this stage, you still have enough chips to choose your spots carefully. When the antes kick in, you can begin stealing in position, but I wouldn't be so concerned about getting your stack in with the amount of chips you have.

I agree with shrog btw, do some watching see what hands are being played, only steal if you think your position and read on the guy is good. Try to attack the weakest player who will fold almost any raise. |

What I learned today After watching and playing in the final two tables of this tourney, I realized that you need to tighten up your play considerably. I could not believe how long a supposed short stack lasted. Their M was under 5 but made it through quite a few orbits. I need to have more patience the deeper I get into a MTT.

I wouldn't neccisarilly say that you HAVE to have more patience....I mean, it depends on if you want to move up a few spots and cash or a little higher or if you want the win. Personally, when I'm playing and it gets down to just a few tables I loosen up because I am always playing for the win. Now, sometimes this has caused me to go out earlier than I could have hung on for, but on the flipside it has also allowed me to cruise to a victory with quite the chip lead when we're down to 3 handed or HU. But that's just my oppinion.

10 big blinds is usually when i start to open shove, but at 10 M's is when i start looking for spots to make moves at. as for what range of hands im open shoving with or making moves with, depends on the table/position/how close to itm the tourney is/etc. so i cant really give you a specific answer for that.

re: When do you start to push? poker For sure duffer, after being the short stack going into the final table, after getting a few steals I let everyone play and got myself in a position that if I had played a bit better I could have won.
