What type of player are you? Are you tight? aggressive? I'm very tight, I notice I last longer in tournaments if I play tight but sometimes that messes me up because I end up being the short stack towards the end. My problem is I never bluff, I notice if I even try someone always comes over the top forcing me to fold. Any tips on how to play tight but still stay in the game?

I'm all over the place with my play. Generally I'm somewhat tight in hand selection but almost always aggressive with the chips. I rarely ever slow play. I make plenty of final tables and occasionally win a few. I also tend to bubble a lot as that is usually where I like to get extra aggressive. I figure if I'm going to get in the money I want to be in the best possible position to go deep. Just making it usually isn't enough for me. That is my poker disease.

Im generally TAG but in the early stages of a tourney I generally am loose calling flops and seeing if I hit with good drawing hands to accumulate chips. But after blinds raise to about 50-100 and even 25-50 in tourneys I will get back to TAG

I'm an all-in specialist. My motto is "all-in, all day" and my strategy is to put the pressure on my opponent. If I see an ace or a king or two suited cards, I know it's my cue to shove all my chips into the middle. Otherwise I just call everything down and suck out on the river. Players constantly call me a donk or a fish but that's just because they know they aren't as good as I am.

Girl Gamer, I've certainly been in your shoes and understand where you're coming from. A few things have helped me loosen up my game at times. 1. Read Harrington's books. They're really full of valuable information and will also help you get aggressive in tournaments when you need to. 2. Read a lot of ChuckTs posts. He is a very LAG player and the perspectives on hands are very different than you would have on many hands. 3. Watch betting patterns for bluffing opportunities. For example, if you're in a hand where two suited cards hit on the flop and you put your opponent on top pair but no flush draw, watch how he bets it. If he bets well above the pot to drive out the flush draw, then you're more than likely going to fold. However, if he bets half the pot or a quarter pot, they may be a weak player trying to limit their losses incase that 3rd suited card hits for the flush. Those are the types of players/situations you want to bluff in. To make it easier on yourself since you described yourself as a chicken...if the situation i described presents itself, put out a quarter pot bet so if you do get called, you won't lose too much. There are many other opportunities out there but this is how I got more comfortable with bluffing.

I started out TAG for my first 5 years playing since that is how all the books tell you to play. I have since become LAG. I will riase with almost anything when I am the first in the pot and will become very aggressive after the flop if I think you are behind otherwise i check fold. Reraises have become my staple for winning hands.

My favorite play is to find a low stakes NL cash game with plenty of fish. I then play like a total rock. The better players stay out of my way but the fish keep giving me their money. I realize that playing this way doesn't maximize profits, but then my chip stack does not go up and down like a pogo stick. It just slowly but steadily grows.

One i way i got out of being so tight was playing flop hitters or hole cards that you would not be put on having. if you hit the flop with these and play it straight up then you may get called by a middle pair or so on. i only do this when the blinds allow. make sure it doesnt cost much but it could help if you hit the flop ur gonna build a bigger stack so you can be tighter later on.

I love to sit back early and wait for someone to bet into me, ill double the blinds with aces and wait for a donk to bet , nowadays with the young guns like myself it is hard to bluff with top pair if you know what i mean.... but once i get chips i could have a ball cap and a 2 and would all in in a heart beat on pot that seems weak or controlable

I'll say semi-aggressive I have to say semi-aggressive, although in poker you have to understand that you have to adjust your game according to the table you draw or sit at in a ring game,i.e i always fold numerous hands at the begginning of play in tourney or ring just to get a read on the type of style of each player, and then step it up after i've established what i wanted to do, but remember never show your opponent your true strategy always stay low-keel and just when they think they have you show them something else, i mean poker's a psychological game so you always need to be focused at table ( Note: live games have totally different circumstances than online)
