What are the odds?

Playing 9 player Texas Hold'em: What are good holding cards to begin with? I've noticed the 1st couple of times playing around the table, that a lot of stupid people will go "All In", holding literally nothing in their hands. There has to be a certain level that, although it isn't the best, it's better than folding. Cards that will weed the foolish, careless players out. It can't all be 100% risk taking. There has to be a set of keeper cards to go in on. Your thoughts?

It always works until it don't. I see a lot of people pick up a few 30 chip pots, then lose 1500 when someone picks up a big hand. Mathematically speaking someone at the table should pick up AK, AA, KK, QQ or JJ about once every three hands. Its just a matter of time before they call the maniac.

Your stack compared to the blinds and ante's determines this. In the early stages of a tourney there are only two hands Id consider calling an all-in shove with, some players would say one.
