What hand would you like?

Would you rather have AK suited or QQ? And why?

A-K. It seems whenever I have Q-Q, someone with an Ace or a King flops a higher pair.

I will take the made hand every time. You don't have to improve to win.

I think the odds are about 51/49 in favour of QQ, so I would take QQ everytime.

QQ, because...

...its a made hand already.
...its easier to throw away if a K or A hits on the flop and you have very little chance of improving.
...if you get reraised preflop, its [almost] easy to fold QQ if you think you're beat.

with AK...

...even if you hit your A or K, you might be beat. Its a bit harder to throw away a flopped top pair/top kicker

I prefer QQ.
I hate AK right now, it seems that 9 times out of 10 the flop misses me!

Depends on the situation.
If we are in a hand with a few callers, i'll take QQ and push.
If we are in a hand where I have to call 3 or 4x BB, then I would take AKs due to the ammount of outs to justify the call.
If you ask me, although QQ is the better starting hand, you have to push preflop to guaruntee value. AKs has a lot of possibilities to make it a profitable hand in a multi way pot.

QQ every time. AK isn't made for one... and at least with QQ if the flop comes A-K-X I know I can fold to any sizable bet. There's always the chance of catching an extra Q somewhere on the turn/river if the bets are modest, and also the (smaller, admittedly) chance that the bet wasn't to the A/K at all.

QQ vs AK is about 57%, and as others point out above, it's a made hand. You have to admit it's funny to watch a pre-flop all-in between 2 players result in a showdown where the AK doesn't hit and the other guy has 22.

Of the two I would take the QQ.

But, my favorite is a suited 9-10 or 10-J hole cards. It seems that in the donk fests I play (I know, stay away from those), everyone who hits an A-+ or K-+ bets it to the gills. There is only 4 A's in the deck and most of the time evenly spread on the board. With a flush/straight draw to the high middle of the pack, I feel I have a better shot at picking up a very good leftover hand. If it doesn't click at the flop, I have no trouble backing away from it like I would an A-K or a Q-Q.

I am really surprised at the responses to this thread. As Titans said we must always want the made hand.

In this example we are 54% to win the hand. If we show this down 100 times we are going to win 54 times. Now, I realize that this is almost a coin flip, but, villain must flop his card. And with every card that hits the board his chances of getting it decreases.

Give me the QQ every time and I will win more hands by betting strategy as well. If the AK doesn't hit the flop I bet out and hopefully get villain to fold more than he gets me too. So in reality this 54% actually becomes better than 60% and probably in the 70% range since 10 to 15% of the hands that villain would have made his hand on the river I have gotten him to fold before he gets there.

I have no concrete statistics, but I would guess that we are at least 65% to win the pot if faced with AK.

I usally limp with AK. It has a tendency to get me in trouble if I'm not careful. Actually the hand that has made the most money for me overall is JJ.

the made hand QQ. Why? well its made u know what u got and if u get a Queen on the board you are able to get more money out of it compared to someone having Ak and and ace on the board. You will get action against K's A's and maybe lower trips with Queens.

Id take AK. You can make more money postflop with it, against AQ, AJ, A10, QQ, JJ (when you hit).

While with QQ youre usually looking for a ragged board which = little action.

Unless you get it in preflop.

Pkt QQs

I'd rather have pkt QQs than AK for the simple fact that you already have a pair & it's a big pair. Especially heads up when you have such a hand it's the 3rd best hand you can get dealt to you. Anyways, AK is soooo overrated & hardly ever wins so i'd rather have the big pkt pair.

QQ is way better to have you still have to suck out with AK and you are always a dog when you don't have a made hand suited or not.

although i hate queens, and have lost to Q8 and 56 already today (its 7:48 AM) while holding them... I'll still take them over AK any day, no doubt!

I would choose QQ because it is the made hand pre-flop. AK is a drawing hand pre-flop.

To push, QQ. To call a push, AK. Ran it 10 times, AK came out on top. I know that's not the percentages, though.

QQ because when the donk I'm playing against on that given day flips over his 8/4, I know I'm at better odds than I would be with AK.

QQ, cuz if you flop a good hand you'll know it, but with AK you can hit your hand and it will still be no good but it will be sooo much harder to fold... because what was the point of seeing the flop at all if you're just going to fold when you make it?
