What the?... That is hilarious.

I don't know... he's obviously shoving ATC (and he knows the power of 84o also ) so I would call with any pair 88+, A10s/o+, KQs/o, maybe KJs. The reason is with ATC, you want a range that has showdown value at the river if you both miss. You also want your kicker to be able to hold up on its own, thus no A2 etc...

Of course, you could just pick any hand slightly better than 50/50 against any random hand and gamble. But I would rather risk that many chips with a likely strong favorite - IF I risk them at all. I don't like crapshoots.

I think this is a perfect example of why a TAG style in the early stages can be key. Let the donks take themselves out. I wouldn't worry too much about this joker accumulating chips early. We know he will eventually spew them to us if we are patient.

yea to be honest I love these people. They take out your decent opposition with awful play, and I just let someone else knock them out unless I get a top 5-10 hand no less. Makes the tourney that much more worth it because its like your playing 6 people instead of the full 10, makes payouts that much nicer/better

Couldn't the case be made that although they might take out 3 people, whoever doubles up through that person then has a big advantage?

For example, Maniac takes out 3 people, leaving a total of 6, but he now has 4 starting chip stacks. You play it safe, and just get mildly blinded down. Meanwhile people 1 through 4 each double up through the maniac, the last person knocking him out. Now you are in a situation where:
(1) there are only 5 people left, but everyone has at least twice the chips as you and
(2) the blinds have now hit a point where you are rapidly losing fold equity.
