what do i do with the nuts??
It happens in ring games and tournaments, and i'm baffled as to how to proceed, Say i hold AK suited and I flop the nut str8 with a nut flush draw, GREAT!!!!!! so I make a pot size bet to get every one out, except one raises me, so I take him all in, junkj card on the turn and the board pairs on the river and I'm sunk becasue he was olding 2 pair and river gave him his full house,
I was eliminated in a few tournaments this way and most frustrating in a $1/$2 NL I bet $100 on the turn to scare him out but he called and sucked out |

Well when you have broadway and the nut flush draw, you don't want to scare everyone out, you want to get their money in the pot, so the hand played out exactly has you would want it too.
Sure suckouts happen but you don't want to play scared and force out worse hands because they might draw out on you. You want to value bet, not push everyone out when you are that strong. If you are playing that way consistantly then you are missing alot of opportunities for the odds to work in you favor. Suckouts happens don't let it make you play bad poker. |

he probablly had a decent pair with the flop and it wouldn't have mattered what you did. he was going to see it through the river. it happens to all of us sometimes. perhaps next time this happens you can get a hand history and post it some of our other experienced players can analyze it for you to help improve your game. sometimes there is not much you could have done differently . sometimes they donk and then suckout on the river.

i had so many situations, especially in tournements, when i got the nuts and tried to protect it with a solid bet. someone calls with just a draw. some people buy in 8 $ tournements without knowing what odds are.

yeah, I notice that as well. You can figure out pretty quickly who the people are who don't know anything about odds, or who just don't care. You definitely want to make note of it and exploit it. If you are wanting to bet someone out who you think is on a draw by giving him bad odds, it doesn't work if they don't know pot odds. That's works in your favor because they are making a mistake by calling and that's what you want. It will work for you in the long run but you will take some hits.

Any time I flop the nuts I usually check fast and hope someone else bets at it. I even check on the turn to let someone catch something but if they bet after the river, I will raise them to the point that I think they can call. On the other hand, smart players assume that someone that flopped the nuts will not bet at it reversing this theory. Guess it all depends what type of players you are playing with.

Anytime I see a pair on the board I worry about a boat. In this situation, I guess it comes down to how well you read your opponent.
There will be times will someone doesn't know to lay down a hand and they suck out, but hey, not much you can do about that. Keep your head up, play solid and play smart. |

This ^^^^^
To make money you want them to make a mistake. If you successfully chase everyone out on the flop every time you're not getting much value. If someone stays in, you risk bad beats, but over the long term you should be coming out ahead. Unless you're like me and call their big river bet when they hit ![]() |
