This is a discussion on What is decent sample size? within the online poker forums, in the Cash Games section; I am wondering about what sample size you should have before you can assume that you are a winning/loosing player?...

Really that many? I understand that there is a lot of variance in poker ad you need a decent samplesize. But if you re trying to move up (especially from the lower limits) and your are doing so after a normal BR strategy, then you would probably be able to move up before you know if you are beating your current limit. So the new question that emerges is: Do you move up when you "know" you are beating your limit, or when you are capable BR wise?

I would say if you're comfortable at the micro limits and making a steady profit and have a decent enough sample size, I'd guess it makes sense to move up? In my opinion anyway. Someone might correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure if I made a decent profit after say 50k hands I'd move up even just to test the water for a bit.

re: What is decent sample size? poker yeah, ofcourse after 50k hands. as benLZ thought that was on the tipping point of becoming a decent sample size. I am thinking about the case if you reach a sufficent BR to move up after say as little as 5k-15k hands.
