Well I don't know
No wonder I am in a slump when you have things like this:
.10/.25 Dealt QQ Player in seat 3 raises to .50, I raise 2.75, they call. Flop comes 2 8 J all different suits. I check to trap he puts me all in for another 5.80, I call. He has A8 in spades, sure enough I get rivered by an ace. I could say what I really think right now, but all I am going to say is this slump of mine can go take a long walk off a short pier. |

i think you mightve been able to avoid this altogether by betting big on the flop. even if you had an over pair to the flop, you risked them catching a scare card on the turn or river. Its hard to lay down over pairs to the flop when your opponent goes all in, but now you money is on the gamble of how the cards fall. I dont really like to take these chances and would rather force my oponents to pay for their cards.

I am beginning to realize that the smaller limit tables or harder to win at due to a lot of "fish". I proved that point today at PokerHost, playing at the ring games.
Started out playing limit 0.25/0.50 because I was paranoid about losing too much. But I saw decent and great hands being demolished at the river because of people chasing. And why wouldn't they? In such low limits, what's another 25 cents? So I moved up to the $1/$2 NL tables and ended up tripling my bankroll in about an hour with a combination of tight play, aggressive play, bluffing....a whole mixed bag...it was great! (Especially after being in such a poker funk for what seems like an eternity in which I found myself beginning to doubt my play.) Now I realize to some of you more serious high-roller types that the $1/$2 is still low limit...but the quality of play between even that small amount and the lower limits (under $1) is very noticeable. I don't think I will even bother with the under $1 limits anymore, unless I have a very short stack in need of building. One day I will make the step up to the larger limit tables online, but for now, I'll save that for the live action! |

Original poster: Trapping with a vulnerable overpair like QQ is asking for trouble. Sure the other guy made a donkish play (well, 2 donkish plays, the call preflop and the push on the flop) and got lucky, but if he'd checked behind on the flop and an A or K had come up on the turn, what do you do? You've already made a nice pot with the preflop action, big pots need aggression so take them down as soon as possible.
