Want to improve my Omaha hi/lo skills

Hey gyus,

i'm playing omaha hi/lo for a while now without ever reading a lot about the game, i've learned almost everything "by doing" sometimes it costed me a litlle and now i'm doing ok most of the time.
I play in average ~1000 hands online a day and i get the feeling that i now need more theory to improve my game so i wanted to know from you gyus if there are any good articles about the game on the net which you can recommend or any books which should be read. Thanks in advice

I'd be interested to see if there's any good reading on this as well. There's not much decent literature anywhere online about the game, apart from the basic "how to play" type articles which I don't really need.

I'm about like you. Playing more and more H/L Omaha. Learning by the seat of my pants, but feeling like I'm getting somewhere.

Like Night Sky, I'm not too interested in Heads Up. Full Ring is OK. But I prefer six-handed. A little more playable action.

I don't know on which sites you can reserve or set up a table, but I do know that on Carbon you're able to create a private table. If several of us could agree on game, stakes, day and time, we could get together for a game on Carbon. I'll even set it up if there's interest.

My preferences are:
Omaha Hi/Lo
Pot Limit
.10/.25

But I'm flexible.

On Carbon you can separate the chat window for easy communication. Since we're discussing this as a learning situation, I'd like to suggest that we show and rabbit all hands and take a little time to discuss histories.

I'd be up for that if you make the stakes .05 & .10. My bankroll is only $32 in there. Just wondering, can you set of play money tables? As long as we're rabbiting & such? BTW, there is a play money table .5 & .10 for Omaha H/L. Maybe we could do that for an hour or so first. Just an idea.

Currently 7th out of 128 at PS (out of 8008) NL Omaha H/L that started at 9:32. A real zoofest at first, but so fun. Sitting out a bit.

I'd be down for a private HORSE game on Carbon sometime. I could possibly be convinced to play some PLO8 as well.

I would get in on some Omaha H/L for play money on Carbon if someone worked that out. I play HI mostly so when learning the L part I'd rather not lose my roll to my instructors.

Do you gyus think that by playing with you i'll be able to improve my game a lot or do u want just easy money?

So no one has any interesting ideas for me how to improve or book suggestions? I began to play Omaha hi/lo tournaments lately and realized how terrible i suck in them... Someone with some experience with Omaha hi/lo in tournaments has any advices for a total tournament fish?

Playing alone doesn't improve your game. You need to play and then get advice on how you played as well.

Well, this is why I suggested a play money game. And everyone rabbit and share comments on where you/me/we went wrong. I'm far from a fish at Omaha, but would still love to improve my game. So would welcome any ideas or reading materials. Omaha is simply not as popular as holdem, and likely there is just far less out there as far as books.

There's no play money PLO8 tables on carbon. I'm hanging out on a PLO8 play money table on Full Tilt if someone wants to come play (I can play on Ultimate Bet too). I need something to do while running some internet errands.

The lowest stakes on custom games at Carbon are .10/.25. I don't see any play money Omaha tables at Carbon but we can get together on another site.

Divebitch, if you wanted more money on Carbon I could transfer you some in return for equivalent transfer on FullTilt or PokerStars or UB.

I only can play on PokerStars because im using Linux and most of the other clients dont run well with emulation. If you have an account there i'll play with you glady, .10/.25 Limit is fine with me.

Figure out a time and table. Does PS have private tables? Sounds like most people want play money or very low stakes. The best thing is if we could agree to all sit out after an interesting hand to discuss hand history. Sometimes it goes so fast on Omaha that I don't really know what happened.

Are you getting some info? Those sources I gave you should help.

Main points are
1. Middle cards are pretty worthless.
2. Don't overplay 2 pair and trips.
3. Don't push or overplay with the low, especially if you're down to heads up. Fold equity is a rare thing in Omaha, and if it's just two of you, your best hope with the low is just getting back what you put in minus rake. And it could get worse, like getting quartered. There's very little to gain from pushing the low.
4. Play for the scoop.
5. Made hands aren't near as valuable as they are in hold 'em, since the river can be very cruel. Best thing is a made hand with additional drawing potential.
6. Most people play a loose lottery-style game. That can be costly, especially since you'll "almost" hit a lot of hands.

Unfortunately there are no private table at pokerstars, the only thing is that we can make a tournament with password protection but cash game and tournaments are 2 different worlds.
Does Annie wrote a book about Omaha hi/lo or is it a "normal" Holdem book with an omaha hi/lo chapter in it?

Annie's book is a biography and not an instructional book at all. It's been awhile since I read it. The first part is a slow rehash of poker rules, mainly hold 'em. The rest of her book is her life story, but she throws in some brief strategy discussions. I remember her points on Omaha were what got me interested into playing better. Sometimes the short and sweet is easier to understand. If you went to that "Ask Me Anything" thread, you'll see that Bill made some book recommendations. I also haven't read much on Omaha, so like you I'm ready to learn more. Did you check out the strategy guide here on CardsChat? It's pretty good.

Thanks for the link, yeah i've seen the articles about omaha here but those are really the basics.

Anyone up for a little play money HL game on Carbon before the freeroll at 4 today? I'm thinking the pot limit at $.10 & .25, just because it's a 9 seat table, in case more would like to join. Just pretend it's real money, and we could rabbit for awhile if we like (I'll be glad to). I'm thinking 3 PM. I'm actually free right now, and have another private freeroll at PS at 2, so if anyone's interested, I'll be in that one, sitting out, and may or may not be at my computer, but will be checking in. At any rate, those rooms always seem to be empty. I'll PM everyone in this thread that showed interest.

PL Omaha H/L is lotsa fun, but I feel like I dunno what I'm doing. These are good tips. Any more info I can extract from this thread would be appreciated. I'm too busy and broke to buy a book.

I can set up a private table whenever you want. If you catch me when I'm on I'll try to get one set up for you. DB I would love to play but I have to take my cat to the vet at that time. I'll try for another.

Thanks much! Do you mean play or real money? I think glworden said he could set up a real money table. Not sure about play money. Seems there are some just interested in play money & rabbiting to improve their game. I'm certainly no expert, but can perhaps help any rank beginner on his/her ill-based decisions. Just figured though if people had off today, and were planning on doing the Carbon freeroll, they might have some time to kill.

Wow this thread sure died... long time ago... but still a good idea to get a ring together and sweat the game as we beat each other up. Talkin PLO Hi Lo, not other variants/games...

Carbon, anywhere... we can pick a micro table and sweat out the rabbits lol...

Dont need set up game can just grab a table and go... will take some organizing time agreements perhaps. Or a regular scheduled weekly sweat/rabbit PLO8 game???
