VIP status affecting profits?
I've been playing on pokerstars for about 3 years casually, of late (specically the past 3 months) ive began to take my game more seriously. I'm mainly a micro limit NL cash games player. I started with $10NL and have been bouncing between $25 and that, depending on my bankroll etc. My main question is i've acquired gold star status for the past 2 months and have been wondering if its impacting other players playing against me. Whether that be negative or positive, and how it might be doing anything different. If negative, then obviously I should not display it to other players. Any thoughts?

I think either way, positive or negative, not many players AT ALL will take in into account when making a decision against you. But if they do they would respect your bets more, which is bad. You want people to call with worse hands so if start expecting you to have a better hand, you are losing money. Not a big deal because the money lost is probably just pennies when you factor everything in. But if I were you I would disable it, I want them knowing as LITTLE as possible about me.

re: VIP status affecting profits? poker
Definately take it off, I personally find it abit intimidating and am more wary of the people with higher VIP statuses. For example there is a supernova currently playing at 10NL (stanko111) and he is just scarying players with bets off pots with his pokerstars showing and basically bullying the table.
However if you want to chuck around bluffs this may be ok but when you want the re raise if you have a big hand players are less likely to if they feel intimidated by your stars |

I don't know about gold, but I know I've heard some people say they like showing their supernova status because it gets good regs to stay away from them while fish feel like they want to go after them and show they can beat a supernova. This is probably mostly for HU but probably true at 6max or FR.
That said I keep mine off. The regs already know me and I'd rather the donks who think they're the shit continue to think I'm just some donk. I've been called a donk many times and I like it that way. I don't want people thinking I play a ton of poker. So I guess it's kind of a balance. Semi-competent players (basically people who crush their home game so think they're the shit and should try online) I think it's better to leave the status off. Fish who are just in it for entertainment/challenge I think it'd be better to have it on, because they'd be more likely to try to bluff you or else think you're good enough to be making a move. All in all though I doubt it plays a huge part in profit. Like I said I personally keep it off, but I doubt you're losing much money by leaving it on or if you're gaining money from having it on I doubt it's much more than it would be if you had it off. |

I don't know about everyone else but I love showing my Supernova status at whatever limit I'm playing. I think its hilarious how so many people see the pokerstars and ask me why I am playing 50 NL and think I must be broke and have tens of thousands of dollars. I think it definitely gives you an edge if it is going to intimidate others, but showing any status less than Supernova I don't imagine would threaten anyone really. I also like how sweet those red pokerstars look under my name and I'm not ashamed of them--they took a lot of hours of grinding :-)

re: VIP status affecting profits? poker
I personally don't show my status and i do think certain players treat you differently if you are showing gold/platinum/supernova than if you show nothing or bronze/silver.
However as has been said..I don't think there is much of a net gain or loss in showing/not showing. I do find it amusing that some of the massive multi tablers at $50 who are even as high as supernova just aren't very good. |
