Update on Tourney with staggered chips!

Hey all,

Just wanted to update you all on the championship table I asked about last week.

For all who arent familiar, here is a quick summary.

I play in a Texas Holdem League, where you accumulate points based on your weekly finish in the weekly games over 12 weeks.

There are approx 35 - 50 players a week. The top 9 Overall Point leaders play in a championship event in the 13th week (last night)

1st overall started with 3,000 in chips, and then they went down by $250, for each position lower.

OK, the tourney

This was no different than getting to a final table and playing out for the win.

The play was tight at the begining, as I expected as no one wanted to make a mistake early.

One of the lower stacks is an aggressive player who changes up very well.

He was the 1st to go all in (finished 8th overall for the season)

He had 8-8 and ran into A-A, and went down.

The person who finished in 9th overall for the season was next to go for 8th place.

So looking back, the short stacks really had to make a move somewhat early. They didnt so much have to worry about the blinds, but the bigger stacks were aggressive when it was heads up or they had position on these lower stacks.

How did I do you ask? Every good holdem story has a tough beat right? Well this one is no different.

I started the night with $2,250 in chips (4th overall)

Played very well all night, and just to make a long story short ended up heads up with the guy who finished 1st overall for the season.

We went back and forth for sometime. Although I didnt play with him much during the season I had heard him talk alot about slowplaying certain hands. this was all i really had on him, and before we were heads up I threw him a lot of curves which really helped when we went heads up.

The big hand of the night came with me as the chip leader with $9,750 to his $8,250

I was in the dealer spot with the blinds $300/$600.

He raised to $1200 to go. I looked down and saw Q7 unsuited. I called figuring he had an Ace, but wanted to see a flop and I had position.

Flop comes down Q-A-2.

He checked, and I immediately said he has the Ace, and my slow play read on him was ringing in my head. I had the Q, and if he was going to let me see a free card I was all for it. I didnt want to bet out here as I knew he would have come over the top and then im forced to lay it down.

Turn was a 7, giving me two pair.

Boy was I siked.

Now i was thinking should I go for it? I knew he had the ace, but i didnt think he had AQ, otherwise he wouldnt have checked the flop, slow play or not.

I figured Id try and take it right here.

I went all-in, and he called very quickly which scared me, but to my delight he turned over, A-5.

With neither of us on a flush draw, he only had 10outs. 3aces, 3-5s, and 3-2s


River was a 5!!!!!

Left me with $1500 in chips, and the blinds jumped to $400/$800, and i was done.

Went all in with A8, and was called with J4, and the J on the turn sent me home in 2nd.

Good story...just looks like he got a lucky catch.

tough way to go out. Check your blood pressure during that hand?... I know my heart always gets to pounding when it is like that.... Great story though.
