| Turbo 45 man Sit and Go Strategy I have been browsing this site for awhile now and thought I should start posting as I feel that I can contribute positively to the site. Through my browsing, I have not been able to find a thread about strategy for the mentioned tournament. I have been lately playing this type of game to try to build up my bankroll. I have had some good success so far and have found that the strategy that i employ works very well. It basically divides the tournament into 3 stages: Early, Middle, and End. 1. Early (Blinds 10-20 to 25-25) Early in the tournament I find playing a tight game is the best way to play. At this point in the tournament there is no need to be throwing away chips trying to catch a flop. Many players employ the strategy of seeing alot of flops to try and double up, but I have found that this isn't a good way to play for a couple reasons. First, most of the time you see cheap flops you won't make a hand good enough to be able to play because of all the people in preflop. Even when you hit top pair you can't be sure you have the best hand. Second, even when you do double up, it still doesn't help you out all that much in the overall scheme of things. Because the blinds go up so fast, those chips mean alot less and it's not worth risking your tournament life trying to accumulate them. I reccommend only playing premium hands in early and middle position and maybe some suited connectors and low pairs in late position in a limped pot. 2. Middle (Blinds 50-100 to 200-400) This, in my opinion, is the most important part of the tournament. This is the point that separates the players who are going to make the money and those who won't. At this stage in the tournament play usually tightens up considerably. Because of this, I have found a looser game works very well at this point as long as it is done correctly. I like to see alot more flops in late position even with some very marginal hands. This is because many times I am able to steal pots after the flop with bluffs or semi-bluffs. Also, by doing this I increase my chances of getting the all important double up. At this point in the tournament building chips is what separates the winning player from the losing. It is important to know that I do not employ the under 10 big blinds shove rule. I feel that in a turbo tournament like this, that it is important to realize that having 10 big blinds may not be a super short stack. I sometimes don't mind limping even when i have this size of stack if I am in late position. Because of the amount of bad players playing this technique often allows me to double up on the flop with one of these marginal hands. 3. End (300-600 to the end) At this point in the tournament you are usually at the final table or very close to it. Everyone is very short stacked and it often becomes an all-in fest. The most important thing at this point in the tournament is to realize your chip position. If you have lots of chips you don`t want to give them away by trying to be the sheriff. Chips are power and you don`t give power away. With that being said, you still should be prepared to call when you are getting 4-1 pot odds on a short stack`s all-in even if you have complete garbage. If you are low in chips look for oppurtunities to steal blinds to try to build your stack. Taking the blinds often has an ENORMOUS impact on your stack and is a very crucial aspect of this point in the tournament. That`s my basic strategy for these tourneys. I would love to hear any feedback or other strategies that you may play. |
