treading the minefield
I made my first final table in a MTT last night.
I played a fairly tight aggressive game and was mostly happy with how it went. (out in 8th when I re raised all in from the small blind with AQ against a loose big stack and ran into AK, oh well). I have a couple of problem areas though. I couldn't figure out how to play against two large stack calling stations at my table. They would limp in every hand, min bet every flop. At this point I had around an average stack and was fairly confident I could outplay them, but when I raised on the flop (with any two cards) they would just call. I couldn't get any piece of the board to retaliate. They just kept accumulating chips while I waited for spots to push. Is there any way to play this. I mean the two of them played EVERY pot for an hour. bet every flop and kept betting or calling every hand. I didn't want to put my tourney on the line hoping they were bluffing and the only time I could get them to laydown was if I moved in pre flop, which I can't do all the time.. argh!! any thoughts? |

Patience is key in this situation. Dont get involved in a hand with them unless your holding a big hand. Then keep betting into them and let them pay you off.
Dont worry about them catching a card to beat you if you're giving them improper odds to call, in the long run you'll come out ahead. They might have had a lucky run, but thats it. Pay attention to how they're betting on the flop. If they like to min. bet and then fold to a raise, then you might want to try and come over the top of them. |
