| Tournaments: Thinking outside of the box...part I Poker books, training videos, tevelised poker, and especially forums, are great tools. They not only teach you concepts and strategies you may not be familiar with, they teach you what everyone else is learning. Poker forums tend to reinforce new concepts or plays. It's always good to know what the herd is thinking. Familiar with the squeeze play? Harrington explains it terrifically in HoH I. (Loose player raises from MP. Smart player in late position knows loose player raises a lot and calls...just trapping...with second tier hand. You, in one of the blinds, go all-in with anything. Loose player folds his junk, smart player, seeing an all-in after a raise and a call, also folds. You collect nice pot with 64o.) It's a great play. And now, thanks to the book and forums and televised poker, a vastly overused and costly one. You won't get many chances but try this when you can. Make the play ONLY when you have AA-QQ, AKs-AQs, or AK. It looks so much like a squeeze play you'll often get callers with weaker aces or raggedy broadway cards. I never mind getting my money in good. |
