Have you read Harrington on Hold'em? I read it not long ago and it made me realize that I was playing too tight for too long. Once you get low enough on chips you have no fold equity and anyone with a decent stack will call you in hopes of knocking you out. You have to watch your M (stack/blinds+antes) and loosen up based on that. Anyway now Im just spitting out stuff from the book. If you have not read it, do so, it will help.

Volume 1 is probably mostly stuff you already know, it started getting real useful for me in Volume 2. Volume 3 is a workbook to test what you learned in 1 and 2. 2 is probably geared to your issue but I would read 1 first anyway. I knew pretty much everything in 1 but it helped to go over them again and really think about why you do the things you do. That sets you up for some very interesting stuff in volume 2. Happy reading! |

re: Tight Player Needs Tips poker Lo-Dog is spot on, (wow never thought I'd say that about a Canadian) Thing you have to keep in mind is that in MTT's only the top few players make any money so if you focus on getting in the money instead of playing to win the tourney you in effect give up your chance to win to get your buyin back. Haven't made it to Harrington's 2nd book yet but am finding the 1st very helpful.

Not entirely true. Don't go crazy. Just play within your style still. Never make a move that you wouldn't normally, unless you have a spot on read that the others will fold because they are playing too tight near the bubble and have completely changed their style. You just can't fall into the trap of playing too tight.

re: Tight Player Needs Tips poker If you haven't started taking notes on players, start now. Write notes such as: Folded to a 3-Flush board. Played KK passively Check/raised Top 2 pair When you have notes on the majority table (ie: reads) and not just TAG, LAG then you can start to loosen up. You will be able to force these people off of hands. Personally, besides the obvious short-stacked, short-handed strategies, I feel that it is much better to play tight until you feel you have the advantage.
