| Thought process Ok there was a thread close to this awhile ago but the software told me I should make a new one since it was more than a month old. And no one replied to it anyway. lol Thought Process. When I am playing a hand I have a thought process I go through, a checklist if you will, that helps me stay aggressive but to also evaluate what is happening on every street. It goes something like this (partially stolen from Phil Gordon) When action gets to me the first question I ask myself is if I should bet/raise? Of course what hand I have, what if any action has happened before it gets to me, tendencies of my opponents and so on are taken into account. If I decide that betting/raising is not a good option I ask myself if I should call/fold. If folding just doesn’t seem right (sooooted connectors small pairs etc) then I am confident that calling(checking) is the best option. By asking the bet/raise question first you assure that you are playing aggressive and smart. Anyone have some sort of script they go through before making your move? Here is an example of how I think through a hand: Table 'Palma' 9-max Seat #3 is the button Seat 1: Razor4k ($9.90 in chips) Seat 2: PLF_DBA_MAN ($12.75 in chips) Seat 3: bigjeet ($6 in chips) Seat 4: deepspace68 ($5.30 in chips) Seat 5: FEchips ($3.05 in chips) Seat 6: jasonmatt123 ($9.05 in chips) Seat 7: amazonic ($8.90 in chips) Seat 8: BeefCurtain ($10.40 in chips) deepspace68: posts small blind $0.05 FEchips: posts big blind $0.10 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to PLF_DBA_MAN [Jd Ah] jasonmatt123: calls $0.10 amazonic: folds BeefCurtain: folds Razor4k: folds Should I raise? Yes! Not the greatest hand but I know the table is loose and people will call me with worse hands. PLF_DBA_MAN: raises $0.20 to $0.30 bigjeet: folds deepspace68: folds FEchips: folds jasonmatt123: calls $0.20 *** FLOP *** [Ks 6s Th] jasonmatt123: bets $0.20 Should I raise? No. I have A high and a gutshot, not so great. Should I fold? No. The price is cheap to continue, lets see another card. Not raising, not folding so a call it is. PLF_DBA_MAN: calls $0.20 *** TURN *** [Ks 6s Th] A♣ The Duster77 has returned jasonmatt123: checks Should I raise? Villain checked so he may be scared of the A. Then again JQ is a very possible holding for him. I think a raise is order to see where I stand. PLF_DBA_MAN: bets $0.50 jasonmatt123: calls $0.50 *** RIVER *** [Ks 6s Th Ac] 4♥ jasonmatt123: checks Should I raise? Still only top pair and villain could be slowplaying me but with the loose aggressive player he is I don’t think so. Raise it is. PLF_DBA_MAN: bets $1 jasonmatt123: raises $2.50 to $3.50 Check raise me will you! Have not seen him do that before! Can’t see how the 4h could have helped so he is at least representing that he has the str8. Should I raise? I wisely used my timeout here to go over the betting and my reads on him. Could have the str8 but it doesn’t seem to add up from what I have observed. Raising here seems unnecessary. Should I fold? Maybe? Lol. Looking back at all that has happened, this feels like a steal attempt from a LAG player trying to take advantage of me. I put him on a pair of tens or Kings and or a flush draw before his reraise on the river. Times running out. Fold? No All that’s left is to call. PLF_DBA_MAN: calls $2.50 *** SHOW DOWN *** jasonmatt123: shows [Ts 8s] (a pair of Tens) PLF_DBA_MAN: shows [Jd Ah] (a pair of Aces) PLF_DBA_MAN collected $8.70 from pot *** SUMMARY *** Total pot $9.15 | Rake $0.45 Board [Ks 6s Th Ac 4h] Seat 1: Razor4k folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 2: PLF_DBA_MAN showed [Jd Ah] and won ($8.70) with a pair of Aces Seat 3: bigjeet (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 4: deepspace68 (small blind) folded before Flop Seat 5: FEchips (big blind) folded before Flop Seat 6: jasonmatt123 showed [Ts 8s] and lost with a pair of Tens Seat 7: amazonic folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 8: BeefCurtain folded before Flop (didn't bet) deepspace68 said, "strong call plf!!!!" PLF_DBA_MAN said, "ty" Now you may not agree with my reasoning but I had kind of gotten away from putting people on hands and really, really paying attention and analyzing whats going on with every street (the result of multi-tabling). I think a little script of things to go through ensures you are making the best decisions you can. Now I didn’t include my thoughts about what hands I put him on until the little blurb at then end, I was going to put it in with my raise fold stuff but it got ugly. I do however try my best to do this. So do you do something like this, and if so what? |
