| Thinking about pot odds at work Hi guys, So I'm at works bored out my mind so I'm thinking about pot odds ( that's how bored I am). Picture this; Live game $200NL Hero dealt KK UTG raise to 6 One caller on Button. Villain same Chip stack as you (200BBs). Flop Kh9s4h. Cbet 8 Villain 3bet to 20 "Yesss!! Action!! Woo! Ahh he probably has a flush draw, ah crap he's gonna hit a heart. So gay. There's my 400 bucks gone! Ok let's bet big. Right so he's 19% to hit his heart, let's not let him. Pot sized raise. Nah he'll call. F it" Hero raises all in. Villain tank folds. Shows a set of fours. "hmm i played that bad" Ok here's what I thinking a common Mistake that's made. Yeah don't give villain odds to hit a flush but don't scare him off a hand that you have crushed. Don't be scared to let villain hit his flush by betting/raising smaller still giving him bad odds with a draw but getting as much value as possible from a dead hand! |

| I think if you consider hand ranges you are much better off. Take a K94 2 heart flop for example... Guy with position on you re-raises you, what could he be doing that with? 2 hearts for sure, 44,99, AK maybe, K9, K4, 94.... thats about it. The only thing that you don't have absolutely crushed is the flush draw. So re-raise his raise, say to 50 or 60 and that gives him terrible odds to draw out to the flush. If he shoves with a flush, hes got 36% EV on that to hit but then you also have the possibility of the board pairing. I think that puts him at about 18-20% EV to hit the flush AND dodge a full house. Everything else you have about 97% EV on.... I think that making a re-raise to 50 would give the player the ability to jam his stack and thats exactly what you want... if he just calls your re-raise and the turn is good for you, then you can jam on the turn. |
