Table selection. N/L Ring. This is something ive been wanting to get some opnions on for a while. Below is a screenshot for some NL ring tables on stars, if you have to pick one table and only one, and its the table you have to play on for the rest of your poker career, which one would it be and why ?

As with most aspects of poker we're dealing with incomplete information, and in practising table selection we just have to come to the best judgment we can based on what information we have. For example, Valda III has a high players/flop%, but a low average pot. The players/flop% may well be skewed in this instance by many of the hands used in producing these stats being shorthanded (which would probably explain the 'low' avg pot). Obviously I'd be more comfortable choosing after observing the tables, even if only for 5 minutes, but I get the feeling that isn't the point of this thread. Accounting for the probable skew affecting Valda III, Jugda's $9/34% looks the most appealing. Hands/hr is usually the least important stat in the lobby. Generally, more hands/hr imply nittier play at the tables anyway.

Nice reply Chris, and naturally some of the table stats may well be skewed, Im really asking about based on the stats that are there NOW are valid and long term, prob should have mentioned that in the OP Ok while all is well and good picking a table, and watching it for a few orbits before sitting, really even to choose that table we have to go through this process every time we decide to play.

re: Table selection. N/L Ring. poker Campania IV. Might not work for the rest of my life but I do best at the table with the smallest average pot. Usually those are the most passive tables so I go in there super aggressive. They'll fold for a couple of rounds to me then have to start playing my game. A game that they are not comfortable with. Edit: I just noticed the 9% plrs/flop. I might skip that one but get my point.

I think 70-75 HPH is fast for 9 players and 60-65 is normal. Especially on Stars, whose software is just a bit slower than someplaces like UB. To answer the question: I like a loose table with big pots. Anything over 40% players per flop is cool. |

re: Table selection. N/L Ring. poker My 1st preference is to keep players/flop lower. I'm not talking about a bunch of rocks, but I'd rather not sit at a table where on average half the players or more are going to see the flop. Once I find some tables I like for players/flop, I look at Avg Pot. I like to see a table on the higher end of the avg pot, but not necessarily the highest. I find this table selection criteria offers me the best returns.

I would have to go with Hercynia II because there is a higher average of players that go to the flop than the usual 20% or so you see at a table of tight players. And the big pots tell me they are willing to protect their top pairs. So if I flop a set against TPTK, the EV of getting payed off goes way up.

I like to be aggressive so naturally I want the tightest and most passive table I can find. I don't mind picking up 1-2 dollar pots if i get 3 of them a round. And to go along with jimbojim, getting players to play a game that they're not used to and push them out of their comfort zone can be profitable. Tight players seem to get really agitated and go on tilt when they see you raise preflop with 7-5 and then flop 2 pair or stronger against their AK they've been waiting so patiently for. Or even worse, for them, call their raise in position with this hand and taking their money that way. I'd go with Valda lll because you're almost always going to be heads up going into the flop so the game becomes much easier only having to deal with one opponent at a time instead of 3 or 4.

Jugta. I eliminate any fast tables, 'cos I needs the time to think. Then: I look for high %players per flop (>30%) Then: the highest hands/hr; which is an indication of passivity. (Higher hands/hr means fewer showdowns ceteris paribus)

| I would pick the one you have highlighted. It seems like a good choice, would that be the right one? Quote:
