stacking off in cash games.. yeah, just wondering about what peoples stacking off ranges are? I 3-bet fairly liberally in position AJs/KQs+ 99+ (well I think its liberally, maybe I've been playing with too many nits this month) but say for example you/I 3 bet AQo (100bbs deep) from the button and are 4 bet by what we see as a thinking/knowledgeable player, do we ever fold here or are we forced to get the money in? are we doing this for value because our hand is too strong to fold at 6 max or do we let this go because we could be dominated/crushed/flipping a fair amount of the time? I know its different for FR and 6 max but if you could post for both it'd be helpful just a question that's been bugging me for the last 2 weeks.. applies appreciated!

You're 3betting hands you should be flatting with. AQ plays wonderfully in a single raised pot but horribly if 3bet/4bet. Basically you're bluffing with hands like 99-JJ,KQ/AJ/AQ when you 3bet them. If you want to 3bet a lot it's better to add hands like A2-A5 (preferably suited) and maybe a hand like 98o to your value 3bet range (QQ+/AK). That would put your 3betting ~5% with just over half of your range being value hands.

I guess, maybe I need to improve my postflop play.. I hate not having the lead, and bricking the flop or seeing an over with 99-JJ and not having a clue where I am in the hand.. are you not 3 betting these hands ever? or is it situation/player dependant.

re: stacking off in cash games.. poker Don't necessarily 3bet AQ vs a "thinking/knowledgeable player", but if you know villain is calling your 3bets with 87s and 33, then you can widen your 3betting range for value. I got this idea from Andrew Seidman's Coaching Kristy videos. AQ plays very well vs 87s, and so does 99 for that matter! First you've got to know what your villain is doing. What's his opening range like, what's his fold to 3bet, what does he call with? Does he 4bet or fold? You can't simply say, I has AQ I 3bet.

I think this turned from a stacking off range to a 3bet range discussion though, so to go back to the original Q...my stacking off range varies between player types and stack sizes but in general against a solid, tightish player and 100BB stacks I will only stack off preflop with QQ+ and AKs. Against nits I would prob only stack-off pre with AA and KK Last edited by micromachine : 17th January 2012 at 3:08 PM. |
