I've only played 4 Sngs today, got 2nd in one of them and didn't cash in the other 3. Played one cash game and lost my buyin on the first hand. So I'm already down for the day. Now imagine the above happens every day, should I just quit poker?

Do you ever win? Is this just total tilt because the day has been a super cooler?

Um it's not tilt. And yes I sometimes win. Not usually though and not today, I'm down like $20 so far today.

i think you need to take a step back and read some books. go to the book store and get a couple of them. don't play, just read. when you've finished reading them, play a bit and try to apply what you have learned. read this forum everyday. start at the bottom and work your way to the top. rome wasn't built in a day. take your time with it.

More questions then:

1. Do you have a working bankroll or do you just deposit to play?
2. Do you use BRM?
3. Do you keep detailed records of all the games you play including buy-ins, tourney fees, cashes, etc?

I go to this forum everday, I've read a ton of poker books and usually apply the things in the Harrington on Hold'em books to my play. I have $40 in my BR right now, I had $3000 a few weeks ago, took out all of it for various reasons. Then a few days ago deposited $350 to start playing again. BRM? No I don't take detailed records, I just focus on playing my best. Ocassionally I check sharkscope or officialpokerrankings for my stats.

well from what i've read of your posts, i think it's time to take a break and go read those books again.

bad runs can run for weeks at times. take a break and as chief said read up on some material and take a break. come back refreshed instead of trying to grind out the tilt from running bad.

Bad call probably but I had the best hand and read him for KJ or J10 or QJ, sb was very aggressive throughout the tournament.

Brutus it was obvious this guy had a small pair or had nothing because he limped behind a limper utg. If he limped utg and made reraise then I'd give him credit for a hand.

BRM = bankroll management...as in playing within generally accepted minimum guidelines. We have some great threads around here on BRM. Part of being a winning player (besides cashing) is keeping detailed records of how you're doing. It's part of the whole being honest to yourself thing. There is no real way to know exactly how you are doing from a #s perspective if you don't track anything. Yeah, online sites are okay, but the real truth is in the detailed numbers.

i aint trying to be a smartass but that aint what you mean by a long break is it ???

By long break I mean about 2 or 3 weeks without playing at all, I put in a self exclusion for that long. Btw, I'm not talking about a one bad beat I'm talking about running bad, because hands like that happen to me every day for the past 3 months (about 2 and a half months if you don't include my break time).

That's not a streak, that's a tradition.

But it is something we can work on. To be honest, I find it hard to believe that it's ALL bad luck. A lot of times, some of our "bad luck" in hands is a by-product of leaks in our games. Sounds like there is definitely some studying and analysis in your future if you intend on continuing and actually want to win. And we can help with that.

I blame calling a raise with 33 then calling an all in on an ace high flop the reason for the losing.

Start to play cash game if you dont like downswings.... I didnt like downswings like you,thats why I began to play cash game.

You should just stop playing poker. Quit now, while you are ahead.

Yeah you're probably right. I can't go one god damn day without something like this happening, and on top of that I lose 2 races for every one I win every single day. Maybe I should take like a 1 or 2 month break and see how I do when I come back?

Can't make any damn profit cuz for every game I do well in and win something like this happens...

Looks like you have my luck at Full Tilt! Just what happens...don't quit, just understand that you WILL get sucked out on a hell of a lot more online than live. People say it's because there is more hands/hour, etc....whatever the reason, I feel your pain, believe me. Just keep going in with the best and you will win. Maybe start pushing harder preflop. You won't make as much when people just fold around to you, but you won't lose it either! Good Luck...(since you seem to have mine) you'll need it!

This is why it's helpful to have records of your play: is this actually happening, or is it just selective recall?

If you're behind right now because you actually are losing two out of every three races, then you'll even out in the long run.

If, on the other hand, you're winning about the right number of races but there are some leaks in your game that are causing you to fall behind, and that in turn is making you think you're not winning your fair share of races, then you've got a bigger problem to look into.

I don't like the push with 88 on that last hand. There's already 1 player all in, the other guy is going to be compelled to call your push given how short his stack is. I don't think i'd voluntarily enter a race with my whole stack against 1 opponent, never mind 2..

Sounds like quite bad luck on some of them hands, and the fact that it all happened on the night of my 24th bday makes me smile as while u were on a bad run I was fully enjoying myself away from the tables with bad beats far from my mind hehe anyways i was looking at this hand though

Now i dunno how sage like this advice is gonna be as i don't consider myself a master of the game but here's my 2 bits worth, At this point in a Turbo tournament with ur chip stack what it was (Less than 10x BB) and although not on a spread out (in terms of stacks) table u were the short stack. Right about now, especially in a turbo, i'd be looking to pick my spots and be aggresive whenever i could, i don't think i would've picked BB with pocket 3's as a place to make a stand, especially as there was a raise from the small blind behind you, remember that the most aggresive players still get a hand sometimes and if i was going to make a stand against an aggresive sb i'd want to do it with better than 3's.

Saying, oh he was really aggresive, in this situatuion shows u weren't thinking very hard, just think of the stereotype aggressive player, entering with a wide range of suited/connected hands, with the huge range that he could be raising with I would never have called with treys cuz he is nearly always gonna have 2 overcards on you with flush/str8 possibilities, so he's trying to hit any of the cards that'll make his str8 or flush or any of his overcards to give him a winning pair, while your just looking for them 2 lil 3's.

With a raise before me and knowing that if i called i'd be down to 900 chips and in trouble this would be an easy fold for me.

Not much advice I can give that hasn't been given. Just remember, you're not as bad as your worst day. You're definetely not as good as your best day. Luck always evens out. So, if you feel the run of bad luck has run too long, it's probably not all bad luck. Take an honest look at your game and re-evaluate your style.
