sng bankroll management?

first and foremost, i rarely played sngs my first year of playing on full tilt, i believe mostly mtts, and was way down in the sngs that i did play in. I played mainly mtts, and had a profit but less than a 1 percent positive roi.

now in 2008 in the last few months i've turned mainly to sngs and almost solely 6 handed $5.
according to opr i've played in 317 3-10 person (some are probly 9 seaters and other games where i donked money in 07). ITM 42% with an roi of 7%. In the last 120 days which is really when i started the 6 handed i've played in 193 almost all $5 6 handed, ITM 42% with an 11% roi.

I'm wondering a few things. What ITM you should shoot for? the strategy articles says between 30-40%. So is 42% really good? average or what. How many buy ins you should have for the stakes your playing with my stats in account? and i also read somewhere where a guy stated a 22% roi in sngs would be ripping the game apart, is this true, or what is a good roi for sngs?

I'm not sure about the itm% but roi should be about 15%-20%. That is what I shoot for. The itm% is not really a big deal because if you make the money 50% of the time but go out 3rd or 2nd in 6 max, you will be losing money. But I think you can't be too unhappy with anything over 10% roi. You may need to work on your game a bit but your making money and that is the goal.

ITM is a big deal and should be around 40%. Not sure what the ROI for $5 sng, but at the likes of the $20-$50 ones, if your multi tabling and you have an ROI of 10% or so then your pretty much killing them. The higher up you go, expect you ROI to reduce as the games are pretty much all about ICM.

If you have'nt experienced a downswong yet in SNG's, be ready for some sickeningly brutal stuff imo. The variance is just horrible.

imo as long as you have a + roi your doing ok. its hard to get a good roi in low stakes stt games, you would need to have a 100% itm. as far as good numbers not sure with that, but i checked my stats on opr (pokerstars)and i was suprised didnt think i did that good because i am just about a break even player . as for the buyins, i dont buyin for more than 5% of my bank roll on stt and about 2% on mtt.

no i mean my variance is from one extreme to another...i'll go in a strectch of 10 where i cash in 9 and win 6 or 7...and think you know i own this. Then go for 10 finishing 2nd in one. and not cashing in the other 9. playing the exact same way. I deal with it pretty good tho after reading the poker mindset.

This is probably what you already know. But i'll mention it any way. Playing the same way against different people maybe your problem.. Be ready to shake your game up more when you get the feeling your playing with calling stations or tight players etc..

near the end of most sng in my experaince is like playng lotto. So your probably doing nothing wrong it's just the law of averages to a degree... bet i get slated for that yes/no ? lol

really 5%. My BR right now is right at $400 and i wasnt planning on moving up to $10 until i got to maybe $750. (is that to strict?). Is an 11% roi in 193 $5 games good enough to move up to $10?

I never try to buy in for more than 1% of my bankroll, cash game or tourney. It is good basic bankroll management, but it's had to buy into a cheap game when you're bankroll is only $30.

imo i would test the waters and give the next level a try. give a few tournys a try you might do better at that level. you could always step back down if your not ready just my opinion

I have wondered similarly about OPR stats but hoping that's true w/ 24% ROI in my favorite game (OH H/L PL 9 or 18p SnGs, mostly $2.25).

Looking at your full stats seems to indicate your game is limit or pot limit hold'em where you have an extra-terrestrial 78% ROI

yeah you got 2 look close at that tho...8 cashes 30 something tournies, you cant base stats on that. when i first started on here i got a 26 dollar token and played in the nightly limit tourney. finished 3rd for $511, so without that my stats in limit would be crap. But the fact is i sucked at NL holdem, (was a losing player), not a ton but lost in long run., and i've gotten a lot better, to now where i can actually make a profit playing it.

I think my best game is in the "other" category, razz, and horse. But i just cant stand limit anymore.
