Sitting on your hands
I read that expression on Harrington's book and it means taking your time before making a move on the pot. I dont think enough people do this in online poker and that includes myself. We all know that poker involves a mental strategy and alot of times things are not what they appear to be . If you really concentrate on every hand you play and go through every round of betting and try to put your oppoent on your hand , then we could make alot more money. Example: I just played a 6 table ring game in which I raised with pair of 8s in and 2 people called. The flop game 3 lower cards then my pair with 2 diamonds and both players checked. I raised 3/4 of the pot because I figured I had the best hand and wanted to take down the pot right there. One guy called and the river brought a blank so againt I fired about 2/3 of the pot and he called and that 's when I started getting alittle scared. The river brought an Ace and thats what I didnt want to see at all and now he bets almost the size of the pot at me. Lucky for me I was only playing 1 table and doing nothing else so I figured I'll take my time and see what he possibly had. I first tought he might have A rag and he was calling me with alow pair and now made 2 pair. But then why would he bet so much like trying to scare me away and make me fold if he had the winning hand at that point. I also thought of a higher pocket pair or maybe a set but I figured those were not likely hands. Finally I concluded that he was on a flush draw and fired a bluff because he missed and that made the most sense. I called and I was exactly right and I gota tell you thats one of the best calls I remember making and I am proud of it. The point I am trying to make is that if I would ve been playing more then 1 table or doing something else , or even rushed to make a decision , then I would ve made probably the wrong call and folded . That is why I am not a big fan of playing more then 1 table since most times you dont think about how the hand went down. I started to notice that when I play a few tables I dont always take my time on my hands and there has been times when I tought about a hand and said ' I think I made the wrong move' . I aint trying to tell you to only play 1 table because it does get boring but just think about what I said. So even thoug we think we are making more money when playing multiple tables and seeing more hands , we might be losing some hands that we should ve won .
