Should I move up limits?

I have always had the theory, If it isn't broken then don't fix it. Well I've been making about $7-$8 an hour consistantly on Tropical. I know that I might be able to get a lot more if I moved up a level but should I since I'm doing so good at the micro-levels?

are you happy with that return. if you went up a level and went on a week-long losing streak(which can happen) would you be gutted?
ask yourself these questions bud

I was going to build up $50 or so before I did move up but that would only take a day or so if I really committed myself.
Yes I am happy with that return but I would be a lot happier if it was doubled

I could probably build it back up in the micros if I had to. It would just be a couple days wasted. This site is almost as easy as that site you're beta testing except for the couple of sharks that try to hunt me down.

Test the waters. Keep on playing your micro limits but allow for one game a day in the higher levels. Set a time limit on how long you will play, or a money limit. See how it goes for a week and make your decision then.

I did that this morning and lost a bunch. I think it was because I was still half asleep. I'll try again when I build it back up.

Jim, one question from a guy who plays TAG in sng's and mtt's.
Would TAG be effective at micro-limits, with the odd bluff thrown in, and a limp with any 2 cards when I could do it for free. Would that work at a 6-seater, or would that be better for a 9- or 10-seater table.
I'm not a cash table player.

oh, well I play that way until I get a good read on people. On Tropical I play a little loose but mostly tight. Every site I've played micro's on Aggressive has always payed off. Like I said until I get a read on people. A lot of people will keep raising even though they only have middle pair and stuff like that.

Something doesn't add up here. If you're making $7-$8/ hour consistently, how is it that you don't even have $50 in your account? By micro-limits, what are you refering to? .50/.10? .25/.50? Making that kind of money (consistently) at those limits is unheard of if not impossible. Sorry if I sound like a spoil sport, but could you elaborate a bit?

I've been at the 2c/4c tables. I dont have much in my BR because 1] I've only been at this site for a week 2] I enter a lot of MTT's with my winnings looking for the big payout.

why enter lots of mtt's, when you're creaming that kinda money, Jim.
If I made 8 bucks an hour(£4.50 to me) I'd play every spare minute and take the money out at the end of the week.
Someone gave me good advice on here, after I placed in 4 mtt's in a row, why not enter satellites to the big tourneys? It's good advice bud.

I would wonder if he really is making that amount consistantly. It is easy to look at a few sessions and come up with a #, but at 2c 4c, you are making 7-8 an hour, how many tables?

Well after actually looking at my hand history I'm making about $4.73 an hour. Thats still not bad. I play 2 tables of 2c/4c but sometime there is only 1 open so I go down to 1c/2c. I dont know why I play all the MTT's...I'm in almost every one that they have.

Absolute Poker gave me $25 a few weeks ago to welcome me back Jim. They also said if I cleared a raked hand condition, I would get a free T-shirt. I really wanted to get this t-shirt. I had to clear 100 raked hands in 4 days time. I never play cash tables. I got good advice from guys here, and took my entire bankroll to a .5/.10 cash table. I made myself walk away if I went $10 down, or $20 up. I played 7 sessions(for a total of I think 7 hours), tight-aggresive, and only had one losing session. I cleared the bonus, got the t-shirt, and improved my bankroll to $75.
So i made $50 in 7 hours. Just over $7 an hour. Can I still do that? No idea, cause I havent played a cash table since. I'm a sng/mtt player for the moment. Understand what Im saying? for those 7 hours I was on $7 an hour. But that doesnt mean I would make $7 every hour.
Re-analyse your results and take it from there bud.

I'll be the party poker stopper and tell you to play 10,000 hands one each level before even considering moving up. Preferably before even realizing that there's even another level to move up to.

Serious as a heart attack. If he's playing at $.02/$.04 maybe 10k hands is a bit over the top, but what's the rush? Moving up after a few good days, on the other hand, is borderline lunacy.

And yeah, PokerTracker logs every hand I get dealt.

It can handle Absolute just fine, only ring games from vcpoker (not tournaments, that is) and I'm not sure about costadelpoker.

Supported sites: http://www.pokertracker.com/ptsupported.html

A word of advice. Poker Tracker is the best investment you can make to improve your game, but I suggest you also start a spread sheet. Poker Tracker is great for plugging leaks, but it has some holes in it when tracking winnings. For instance, at many sites, the sumaries for tournaments and S&G's must be entered manually. Also, if you inadvertantly leave a table before the hand history has been recorded, your last hand won't be registered. Missing one hand isn't a huge problem in the grand scheme of things, but if your trying to keep an accurate record of money won or lost it could be a problem.
