You should have raised more preflop in my opinion, however the guy played his trips very well.

Raise more why? I had a pretty tight table image and while i dont want to be 4 handed or anything I did want a little action.

Just frustrating because I knew he had the queen but just couldnt let it go.

I think the pre flop raise was fine Even if you had bet 4 or 5x the BB I don't think you were gonna scare him off KQs. This was a tough spot to be in really. I think you played it well. With the two Qs on board it would have been easier for me to get rid of the AA on the river. He gave you a good price to call though.

He had trip queens, the only other hand he could have called you with on the flop was a pocket pair but I don't think any pocket pair plays like this.

I always overbet AA in the early stages of a micro, usually 6-7x BB, especially if the table is still full and none of the donks have been knocked out yet, because the blinds and button are getting too good of odds to fold less than premium/speculative hands if they are still relatively even-stacked. Chances are you will get a reraise or shove if someone actually does have a hand, at which point it is heads-up and you are all-in at 80-20, which in my mind is best case scenario.

I think both players got it right here. On the river the villain's bet is a nice value bet which offers good odds to call.

We have to think what the villain thinks (you are thinking...). The action on flop and turn is consistent with a c-bet from you (with AK, for example) and the villain has a flush draw. The river bet could represent a steal from the villain holding a busted Aflush or pairing the 9 or 3 believing you can't call with AK etc. Or they could even have a small pair that they reckon would beat your AK if they thought you thought they were trying to steal with a busted flush.

Perhaps the only way out of this hand is to fire say $300 on the turn. Drawing hands often fold here and you are showing strength ie you are saying that is wasn't just a c-bet on the flop, but you have a hand. Any action after that and you can fold. Also, since you have opened the betting three times the villain will often check the river expecting another bet that they can raise all in with their monster. Instead you check the river, and showdown.

In short, no, it was a fair call.

Trips, who would have thought. He fooled you well with the way he played them. I will agree with the comments above, a higher preflop raise might have been in order.

i really don't like differing your raise sizing due to the cards your being dealt.. you can get away with it at $3 level but i wouldnt advise it. i think 3x is fine.i think you played it pretty well considering, the flop bet is smallish, i like the pot control on the turn, if he was drawing you get to the river cheap, since its a blank you could easily be inducing a bluff here.. so i would make the call also, think you played it fine


If you start to raise differing sizes due to the cards your getting, you ARE giving way to much info to players who are observant.. like i said $3 you may get away with it.

but in general as the blinds go up, the raise sizing goes down, thats due to stack sizes and saving the extra $$ when you get 3bet all in..

early levels i will raise more like 3.5x, but its due to everyone being relatively deep stacked. The only time i would raise differing sizes is due to how i see my opponants, if i think they are strong players i may raise more, as i dont want to get in a hand postflop against them, the weaker they are, the more comfortable i am with playing postflop so ill raise smaller, but its nothing to do with my cards..

If you put him on the Q, which you had to, a fold would have been proper. However he could have been making a play at you. Or have a lesser hand, like KK, JJ, TT, etc.

plenty of hands he could have considering the weak small bet on the flop... its easier when you know what the guy had.. you have to look at it before then, and focus on the decisions he faced..

he raised pre, got called in two spots.. bet small on the flop, got called, which could be a Q sure, but it could be a smaller pair, a flush draw... rightfully checked in position on the turn, which could have looked like a sign of weakness to the other player and if he was drawing or had a smaller pair, he could be bluffing with busted draw or value betting the small pair thinking its good.. No way you can make a profit laying this hand down time after time on this board, your throwing money away, i think he played it good..

Next time post this in the tournament discussion and dont post the results, they are irrelevant, you need to focus on decisions.. its real easy to say you should have folded when they knwo the results..
