Should I drop down to $2 NL?

I've been playing $5 NL but now my bank roll has dwindled from $100 to $60 and I'm thinking perhaps I should drop down to $2 NL.

Problem is...I have a hard time taking it seriously. For some reason raising 8 cents preflop just makes me giggle.

How different is the competition between $5NL and $2NL?

You talking about it being a $5 buy-in to the table? What are the blinds at the $2 buy in tables?

the pokerstars .01-.02 tables have a max buy-in of $5? and by raising $.08 preflop i managed to make about $30 in the last week alone (1- or 2-tabling, i am still not as good as some who do 9, 12, 16 tables at a time), so it can't be that bad.

alternatively, just deposit again. and tell me your screen-name.

Then don't drop down, you'll be playing against opponents who care more about the money than you do.

So I played a good amount of $2NL last night and I like it. People don't know how to bet, raise preflop, or really what hands to lay down.

If you hit something, you'll probably get paid out well or not at all.

Well I'm trying not to deposit again. The first $100 was bad of me an a total impulse so I don't want to do that again. Come to think of it though, I have another $60 in Bodog that I could withdraw and deposit into Stars.

My screen name is the same as this one. What is yours?

I know how you feel.

The problem you have is your bankroll does not allow you to play any higher. Why not increase you bankroll? Put say $100 more in?

You will feel a lot better when you arenot stretching your bankroll.

haha. I said that enough and next thing I know I have a few thousand in CC debt.

$100 here, $100 there...it all ads up quick. It doesn't help that I love fine dining, audio, cars, and poker...

According to proper Bankroll Management gaming theory, you need to put a maximum of 5% of your bankroll at any given table ( ring game) at a time (2% for MTT'S). So if you have 60 dollars than you should not sit down with more than $3 at any given table at one time. To sit at the $5 table you need a minumum of $100 to play that limit. Stick with the 2NL tables till you have consistantly won at this limit, and have more than 100 dollars of bankroll to play with I would hold back on the 5 NL tables.

Also as a side note: In my experience, it does not matter if you are playing 10 NL, 5NL, or a 10/20 table Live, people will gamble when they play cards. So you can make every right play, pre flop, flop and down to the river, but that doesnt guarantee a win unless you flop the Absolute Nuts. They may have gotten lucky as heck...and may have played the hand terribly without ever knowing it, but that does not get any of your monies back.

GL at the tables!

My bankroll management system is simple:

When I move up in limit. I will have mimimum 20 buyins on the new limit. If I loose 8 buyins I drop down in limit......

Usually I can loose about 4 buyins no and than and no its just bad luck...

But if I loose 6 buyins I am in the danger sone. Most likely I am doing something wrong.

If I loose 8 buyins I am 100% certain that I have leaks. (And because of that I have to be punished and move down in stakes.)

In my opinion in 5NL it is some good players but in 2NL it is very very few good players.

My advice is that you move down in stakes and learns to multitable many 2NL tables.

lol...okay...I want to build a bankroll. My goal isn't to play $5NL forever. I can handle $25NL, I just don't have the bankroll to survive swings...

as long as you know you are underrolled to play $5nl its fine, I would say the competition at 2nl would be pretty bad as well so maybe play tighter as those players are calling with crap and take them to valuetown when you hit some hands

Remember the lower the limits you play, the more the maniacs take over the tables. You'll be called with all kinds of K4os A2 os even 72os
and they think its all good poker.
Good luck at whatever you decide
