Shorthanded Turbo SnG strategy?
I've been playing the 6-handed Turbo SnG's on Titan Poker. I'm having a bit of trouble on how to play these well. It seems that I get shortstacked early with pre-flop raises that don't hit. IE, I have AK raise pre-flop, and continuation bet the flop with all undercards, and I get raised all-in. I fold, and now i have to go all-in preflop with i get a decent hand.
So.. what kinds of hands do you limp in with? What kind of hands do you raise with preflop.. how much? How do you play these hands post-flop? How do you deal with hyper-aggressive players.. ie, last night I raised all in with A3s and lost to 95o preflop, got shortstacked with AKo against A7o. Thanks in advance! |

My advice is to get aggressive early because the blinds go up so fast. If you hit something on the flop, bet, raise, etc. If players seem to play thight, bluff. Attack early!

I usually just stay patient for the first few rounds and fold anything that is not a category 1 hand (ie.AA,KK,AKsQQ) I may also play suited aces w/decent kicker. My main objective though is to push all in with those good hands and wait the rest of the time. As players drop out I will open up more and make moves on the tight players. My strategy really consists of more of a gamble because of the fast blind levels and the fact players are more likely to call all in bets with mediocre hands like AJ,AT,KQ,KJ etc.

I have my most success in shorthanded turbos. Why? Playing aggressive pays off. Raise BB 4 times on any hand that you choose to play. Isolate the table to 1 opponent. When the flop comes, make a pot sized bet. If you are called, they are still searching. If you are re-raised, then you are beat and you should get out of the hand unless you have top pair or better. Once you double up, only play premium hands and extract as many chips as possible from your opponents without having to risk too much of your stack. If you don't hit any premium hands, then sit and watch the others donk eachother out until you are in the money. The play at these tables is so loose, that you typically only need 1 double up to place in the money.
My starting hand selection for these SnG's are as follow. -Any PP -Any 2 face cards together -Any face card coupled with an undercard with straight or flush possibilities (if you have top pair with undercard, bet aggressive but know when you are beat) -Any pot that I am BB that is left unraised. Stick with this strategy and you should have some pretty good luck. |
