Shorthand cash beginner Hi all Hope everyone is well. I have just joined in hope to get some valuable advice from winning players. I have played poker for about 3 years and won approx 3.5k from NL2 and NL5. I had a break for about a year and I am struggling to win $1. Can anyone recommend good books/articles on how to beat shorthand beginners tables? One's which are maybe more recent and in touch with todays game. Thank you all in advance for your help Mike

I have 4 kids and had 1 xmas with no job lol. So thought it was time to start over again. Having bad luck but think part of it is me playing bad due to frustration. Used to raise and be able to play a pot heads up, now it seems 2 million Gus H's have been born and im sruggling with what is the best way to play. At the moment i've tighten my range right up to JJ+/AK early position and KQs med pp's type hands late position and I'm still finishing after 6 hours of playing $0.03 up. Just really struggling and could do with something to read which might give me a little mental lift

I dont play 6max but... early position of JJ+AK at shorthanded tables is way to tight, i would say it was fine at a full ring table if you were playing a super tight aggressive game, but at 6max opening something like 22+ AK, AQ, might be a better start for you, pocket pairs are so profitable at 2 and 5nl, a big bulk of your money will be coming from them. Remember to steal lots so you wanna be very loose on the button and still pretty loose on the Cut off too. If you're finding it hard to get in HU pots maybe you're opening too small? 3x is too small for 2,5 and 10 i found and opening 4x pre is a better idea, if that doesnt work at a certain table by all means open 5 or 6 if it's gonna get you HU.

re: Shorthand cash beginner poker Check out the videos in Leak Buster. They were all created by people who play 1/2 or higher, and have a lot of advanced concepts that are explained well. Also, Google some training videos for those stakes or sign up for a free trial at a training site. I know you said you want to read something, but the videos tend to be more up to date.

Thank you all for your replies. I've read a couple of books, which have given me a little boost into trying to look at the game in the longer haul rather than the losses I have been experiencing lately. I have started to win again and I am playing much better. I am now treating each hand as it's own which has improved my game and stopped me from entering pot/calling draws I shouldn't just because of a previous hand where I was unlucky. I will try raising slightly higher and see if it helps. I have been playing super tight then once I show a couple of decent hands start to losen up more to the range I'm used to. I will try smaller pockets from UTG and see if it helps my gains. Thanks Shwiggler think I may try that, I much prefare to watch videos also. But I think that's because im lazy ;+)
