Set on set

A couple of times recently my set has been beaten by a bigger set, much to my dismay Anyway, Mr Gorden in his little green book suggests the odds of this is about 1 in 100. Is this true, anyone crunched the numbers on this?

On online poker this happens all the time, you have to watch out for that.

In live poker, you're lucky to see it.

its risky play playing the low straight, i think the best thing to do is read how the player's are playing there hand because they might have the higher straight and u end up losing.(using the same cards on the board but u have the low version and the other person has the high 1)

lol I dont think anyone who replied to this understands what the OP means. Set over set means both you and a villain have a pocket pair and both hit a set on the flop. Villain's set is higher than yours and it is almost impossible to fold your set so he stacks you. The OP is right, there is about a 1 in 100 chance this happens, so you shouldnt worry about it.

Sida you are talking about straights which have nothing to do with sets.

Effexor I have no idea wtf you are talking about

Jagsti you are talking about PP vs PP i believe

smerald it is no more likely to occur online than live. You play many more hands per hour online than live that is why it seems like it happens more often. There are many posts on this.

ummmm nooooo.

happens same amount live. I won a big pot with set vs set live, my 77 vs I think 55. Flop was J75 I think and we got it all in on the flop. 1st thing I said was you got JJ and he said no then I flipped my 77 and he flipped his underset.

it seems like it happens more online because you play like 10x as many hands.

as for folding a set online on a dry board, thats horrible. If you ever dont go broke set vs set then you played your hand wrong. You are calling with small pairs to hit sets why on earth would you even concider folding them?

I have been stacked in a blind vs blind situation in which I flopped 2nd set and SB flopped top set.

Top that.

ok I watched this hand. One guy had AA other had QQ, flow was QAx and turn was A . A 1/2nl game where both players had over 1k in their stack and the pot got massive. Live of course.

the guy with QQ was going to get up and leave and come back in 1/2 hour so he could buy back in for $300. At the time he had close to $2500 in his stack, needless to say he didnt have that much anymore after this hand.

i like this i can say is shure is nice to keep note's on player's then i have some kind of thought's on the raised bet about ! if you were raised, also I MUST remember before entering a hand with a pair that if i get called theres a chance that i not have best hand after flop,if i think i have the best hand, get a read ,still need to be carefull ,bet some and try to feel caller or caller's out! now AFTER turn i can get my read i need and take it from their
