Ring Games: How often do you "float"?

By float I mean "call with a hand with possibilities (K,Jsuited, 8,9 Suited, 33 etc etc ) with the intention of taking down the hand on the turn or river? "

In what positions/ situations do you this use this move?

In your opinion, Do the benefits of keeping hyper agressive players in line and/or the possibility of collecting big if you connect outway the pitfalls of inconceived "timing"?

I am interested in opinions.....

It honestly depends very much on the opponent, but I would say I do it about 4-5% of all opportunities given. I like floating when I feel that my opponent is showing weakness, and will do so again on the next street (and will fold to aggression).

floating with out some sort of draw is silly, also floating there needs to be some sort of scare card that they would be scared of.

for instance say you raise AK and flop comes down T25 and you get lead into. In this spot Im likely to float someone, I usually dont like re-raising there because I get bet out of my hand and that sucks. Now if another 2 comes off on turn this card can not be bluffed. This is not a scare card and you will get called down here. Once you just call the flop with AK you can no longer represent a overpair, unless you have shown yourself to be very tricky the guy is not going to give you credit for a overpair and your line looks like a bad float.

A broadway card has to come out or top pair needs to pair etc. If this happend now you can attempt to take it away. I usually dont float at the levels im playing right now because the players are not good enough to think through my lines and give me respect for the hand. I actually would not float 1/2 and below, 2/4 and above I would. I have not played above 1/2 consistantly online so I cant comment on those game too much. If im playing 2/4 im usually shortstacking it and that I have only dont a couple times and as shortstack float should not ever be in your vocabulary.

you don't HAVE to have a draw to float - but there should be something on the flop

FD on flop, oesd (but those usually aren't so obvious), low cards where a face changes thing... etc...

make sure you do this sometimes w a hand also to level it out

floating i've seen works from 50nl+. people auto cbet there, and you can float a lot wider at 50nl-100nl than people would think.

It can be done at all levels, but at the micros you have to have a good read. If I see someone that cbets every time, and is also capable of folding ( rare at the micros but possible) I'll do this on occasion. Over 10k hands I remember doing it 3 times, and it worked twice, so you see how often at the micros it's worth it.
