Representing trips

Since there have been a couple of threads about leading out with trips, I wanted to post this hand to show how uncommon it is and how easily you can take villain off his hand here. Of course it helps that I had a premium draw to call the flop with. Villain is not putting a cent into this pot after my cold call. My line looks like a standard trips slowplay.

I miss your point. Where did you represent trips????

Check-calling the flop and checking the turn and coming out with a "value bet" on the river. Clever villain did not fall into my trap by betting the turn and folded his pocket 99.

um...ok, I dunno about that. He may have put you on a flush draw too...but I don't really see what you're so proud of, you wanted him to call 4th or 5th..not fold..

How can we want a call with no showdown value? Leading the turn is probably best actually.

I hope you don't play trips in this situation this way.

You don't exactly have to balance your range perfectly with how you'd play trips, more so how your opponents would think you would play trips, but this line is still just not credible enough.

This guy was playing his position in an isolation spot, and probably had something like 9Ts or AJ. He's rarely folding any pair on this board for one bet on the river after he pot controls the turn - it's too likely you're on some weird play with 7x or bluffing a busted draw.

Can you guys stop being such smart asses? This guy's relatively new to the forums and is obviously trying to post lots in the strategy/HA forums. Don't discourage him.

I see this too often and it does look rather pathetic. It's one thing to bust on a P/W request, but not on someone who is just trying to throw something out there to learn.

This guy posts on many other poker forums on the net, so I'm sure he's used to such jack-assery. And yeah, he's obviously smarter than your average player. Not trying to discourage him from making strategy posts. Just don't think he'd mind a few check boxes in this particular instance.

I think their are a lot more hand than just Kx you could have in this spot A7, 88-jj, flush draw, and maybe you could have floated him with AQ or AJ. I don't think most player would lay down too many hands here. Maybe the Q scared him off but I would say you were ahead with A high.

I don't mind the abuse, I get it worse on the other forums. There are a lot of microstakes and beginning players here so I think I can help a lot of them but I'm more interested in learning from better players.

I almost wanted to donk the turn but I was afraid he had AQ. Then I put him on a midpair and didn't think he could call with anything less than JJ.

Yeah, but it's always the same members that do it. I guess they don't remember back when they couldn't beat Doyle and Hellmuth 9 out of 10 times. I also wonder how newer members get busted for trolling and making jackass comments but not the older ones.

Not so. Many members on this forum are new, or less experienced with the internet. I do my best to leave those guys alone & respectfully provide a meaningful response to their questions. Other posters who are experienced with online forums, or who have experience posting with me, my responses are often shorter, they include more sarcasm, and I'm more likely to do silly things like post check boxes or include a response like "omfg, I am in love with this".

Its the same as telling a dirty joke with your friends from school, but leaving that joke out of a conversation with your grandmother. Certain people have certain tolerances for being offended, so you should alter your level of offensiveness accordingly.

I'm not saying I don't love the sarcasm. But it was actually you who first busted on me when I posted a hand in the HA thread. Now, I can look back and see that the hand was foolish, but at the time I was a total fish.

And all I'm saying is exactly what ChuckTs was saying. Don't make it hard for someone to want to post. If they think that they are going to get poked fun at every time they are going to be less likely to try it.

And I know that you feel the same way about this being one of the top forums on the internet for poker. I just want it to stay that way, as I'm sure you do.

are the best hand ever in my opinion. I love getting them because they are disguised so well. You see the flop and you see that you hit trips and then you see the ace on the flop and you know your opponent has an ace. It is such a great feeling and so many times if you bet it wisely and dont come across too aggresively you can double up. Especially when theri ace rag hand two pairs the board. LOL.....so much fun.

Check calling the flop is ok, as you have nutfldr??? Surely not representing tripK? That would be a reraise, with the fl dr on the board? Are you representing trips or do you have nutfl dr?

Checking the turn, perhaps for check raise? Why would tripK do that here, and give another free/cheap card to a fl dr?

A "value bet"? Vbets get called, else NOT vbet, think about that. If you vbet and your opponents fold, you did not make a vbet.

I still do not see how you represent trips here. Just bluffing a busted fl draw, and taking it down.

How would you have played the hand as villian?
