Rebuy strategy: Add-ons at first break

I'm in the 30-seat satty for the Dime on Ultimate Bet.

Current stacks are 215/5157/23770 (min/avg/max) at the first break.
I have 9390.

The question is: Is it good strategy to add-on (2000 for $0.50) at first break when you are sitting at well above average stack and currently in the top 20 of the tournament?

It's rare for me to not rebuy. I'm a firm believer in having beaucoup chips to double through the bigstacks....unless I am one lol. (What are the blinds at UB after 1st break?)

Let me ask you this.........Do you think it would be advantageous to have the extra BB's?

You should always take the add-on.

Yes, You should always take the add-on, and you should be prepared in the begining to Rebuy if nessasary. The Reason for this is simple, more BB's, and when you start to dip into multiple inflection points, or if u hit a cold deck, then it might just be the push you need to survive. I always add-on no matter what, but if you were like chip leader, or in the top 5, you may have such a good lead that it's probabaly not nessasary. Also in the example above, you had almost 10 k in chips about double the average,--well if you don't add-on, and most everyone else does, well the average stack will be approaching your stack size soon, which in turn means that you might be forced to make moves sooner than you wanted. I ended up on major tilt as some dumbass went on a huge rush at my expense. I don't think an add-on would have helped...

I would add- on cuz most likely most of the others did too and 50 cents is not much money to spend to give you more chips.

Yup, more chipsssss is gooooood. Always add-on unless you are really short at the break and don't think you have a decent shot to make the money.

I always do this extra add-on no matter how many chips I have as long as this extra add-on is no bigger than 10-20$. In the bigger rebuy toruneys I usually dont add-on unless im under average simply because I really shouldnt be playing these in the first place with my BR, but the money is tempting :-P

Rebuy tournament 5-6 rebuy standard usually. 1 add-on.
Just if your BR enought play rebuy tournament.

Personaly I try to stay away from the re-buys because my BR is still low, but...

Reading what kar said made me think in your situation I would probably watch how many other rebuy. And how it will effect you standing not doing it. Then you have a little more information on the feild high/average/low before you decide.
In other words, wait till the last second. Just my thought anyway.

umm whether 0% or 100% of the field is adding on you should still always add on.

You should almost always add on, but in this case it costs 5 times the buy in! That's way too much ,so I'd say it's ok not to add on.

I would at that stage and with those chips. Could mean the difference, if all the others do take the add-on, of you dropping a few places, and when it counts not having enough chips.

If the option is there to add-on its pretty simple... ADD ON LOL everyone else is.. keep yourself in the mix

take the add-on you never know when those few extra chips will help you knock out another big stack, or give you some extra "buff" if you suffer a bad beat

I think it's a function of a few things:

- buy-in
Not so much because of the buy-in, but because of how much is in the prize pool. If it's a $5 tourney it'd be kinda silly to add-on the same amount as starting stack for $200

- stack size compared with add-on stack
If you have 20k chips and the add-on is for 100 chips you should tend to not take it, again depending on how much the add-on is compared to buy-in

- blinds
This may even be more important than stack size. How many blinds are you getting with the add-on?

I think in general any tourney online that offers add-ons is a good deal, but I still think it's important to think about why and think about situations in which it would not be a good deal and how to know. Does anyone know how the icm breaks down for the average online add-on with various chip stacks? How much does the add-on increase your equity in the tourney? This is what we should be thinking about. I'm not sure about it, and I've also wondered about rebuying immediately in rebuys as well. Basically the logic goes if you are willing to rebuy immediately then in a non-rebuy with the same structure you should be willing to flip for stacks with another player at the table first hand. Not sure how many people would do that although I guess rake is the exception as with the rebuy you pay no rake while a 2nd tourney you pay rake all over again.

Honestly I think rebuys and add-ons are an area that has beeen left heavily under-addressed in poker theory at least from what I've seen.

in a rebuy, we can continue to rebuy. in a non-rebuy we can't. you can't really compare the two like this.

99.999% of the time it's a good idea to add-on/rebuy any time it's possible.

I don't know if it's a very good idea to rebuy even if it's just 50 cent!

You've got enough chips and you're over the average . The average in chips in a rebuy is always high and the blinds still low . SO i wouldn't in this case.
