Re-raising weak?

I was watching the Poker Premier League on PTV here in Australia from I dont when and Jesse May mentioned after Alex Kravchenko had re-raised Roland De Wolfe with J6s to get Roland off his 55 that just about every time Kravchenko had re-raised weak he had gotten away with with it.

So my question is do any of you re-raise weak and under what circumstances and do you do it more live than online or does it not matter?

Position, position,position and texture of the board.

In live play, it depends on how you have read the board and whether you smell weakness.

In online play, I'll give more weight to my image and his image. IE: If I was the initial raisor and I have position...On the flop he bets, (depending on texture of the board.. esp if there's an A and say I have a low pocket).. I might reraise to get him off the hand as that is only one of the two ways of winning that pot.

If I was out of position, and I check it to him and he bets.. depending on the texture of the board again and his image..., I will raise him.. showing him strength..with that check-raise. Here again, I have two ways of winning the pot, he folds here or he flat calls and I might get lucky and hit my 3x on the turn.

I might even get a free card if you check it to him in the above two situations.

Well they reraise to bluff and it works for some but on line they have a big problem using that fold button, I know as a female a lot of men raise figgering I am gonna fold up like a $2 suitcase but if I think I have the winning hand it not gonna happen lol.

I think the re-raise period works much better live. Evildoesit makes an excellent point, a lot of players online refuse to fold to a re-raise, and so therefore it's not nearly as effective.

When you have position on a player that's raising too often and you've been playing tight, that's a great time to do this. Of course as others have said you have to be careful not to do this against calling stations, and don't commit too much of your stack.

This falls under the "3 betting light" catagory...a term you'll see used often around here.

its definately all about position if you are in the position to steal the blinds especially if you sense weakness then you have to reraise and make the steal when and while you can. Especially later on in the tourney like say when players are on the bubble it is a great time to act like robin hood and rob them lol

I agree that position is key,but that said if the field is large and i have any kind of shot at any hand,while mixing it up,occasionally im going to value bet at a pot,even if i,m utg...sometimes we all miss and a simple continuation bet can bag a few bucks or take out half the field or more....its a good tool...but i do keep it in the lower half of the tool box,its something i use sparingly.

This is pretty read dependant. Typically you want to 3bet light vs an opponent that's been pretty active. Some active players can get away with 3betting light though if they haven't done it very much at that table or they're not known for doing it. Most definitely something you want to do from in position though, and if you're doing it pre typically you want to do it with hands that won't be dominated and have a chance to hit a board hard and have your opponent stack off on you.

You gotta know your opponents. Some will call anything. If they're that loose or shortstacked sitting on Ax you might force them to push all in. Position is important as most before me have said. Another thing you gotta take into account is your image. If you have been bluffing a lot and been caught then you could be in trouble. For me, J6s has not worked out too well.

have to reraise against people that bet on there draws or against people that consistently bet on the flop.... but never against people that call every bet someone throws at them...

This is a move I like to make on players who C bet lots of flops. Unfortunately if the villain flat calls you, you either have to commit yourself on the turn or give it up.

If you feel like your opponent could be weak , you can try it.

I do this more in cash games , but i got to have position.

That sounds abit like a donk bet if you're not the initial raiser?
Unless.. well you bet to induce that raise from the villain...

uhh... sometimes I do re-raising with a weak hand. it depends in the position and I should notice other players how they play whether they are tight/lose aggressive.

I usually re raise weak if I am in a freeroll with a lot of weaker poker players. For example if I am playing in the $100 freeroll on full tilt with 2700 players. I will re raise if I am weak in a lot of situations after I have been sitting down for about 1 hour, because then I feel players will be more scared to go all in or to call with draws.
