I always rebuy right away and always turn on the Auto Double Rebuy. When I go AI I want it to be for as much as the game allows. If I'm having a bad tournament I will dump chips at the very end if need be so that I can have the max to start the 2nd session. I always do the add-on too.

I don't believe in re-buyin or adding-on. It's just another way to get more of your money. If you can't make in the money with your initial buy-in then wait until next tourney to try again. You just have to realize these types of tournies are filled with DONKS ( they go all-in with anything). Your goal should be to make it to the 1st break. If you make you chances greatly increase to making to the payoff.

Well i dont play much re-buys but the donks your talking about are just
useing a effective re-buy strategy, after the re-buy pariod is over the either have nothing or a massvie chipleaders.
I dont like that strategy but it is effective .....

the proper way to play a rebuy tournament is to literally play crazy the first hour... if you cant afford it i wouldnt play in them, your just leaving urself at a disadvantage stack wise after the add ons are over... when i say crazy, i dont literally mean crazy, but u want to get urself into big pots QUICK, u need that 6k+ stack asap, then once u get there i like to wait and pick my spots with good hands to get it all in with, theres literally very little post flop play in these, just play ur hands super aggressive, and towards the last 10 minutes, dont be a bitch, this is when players dump 3k or less chips with ATC basically, when u spot these players, feast on them... your goal is to have at least 10-15k chips after the addon chip, around 20k is ideal.... even if u spend say... 21$ in a 3$ rebuy, but u have 21k in chips, its so worth it then spending say 3$ in the same tournament, and only having like 7k (if u ran well) the difference is huge and in the long run u will make a lot more money setting urself up with a big stack to go deep in the tournament, the extra 15$ u invest can win u thousands.

Agreed - Risky Re-Buy Play

I could not agree more. If you can afford it AND you can keep this style of play from creeping into your REAL game, then you should play loose with weak aces and such... Plan accordingly with your finances to have the most optimal chip count by the time the real tourney starts.

However, I have also played purposefully & without the use of the re-buy and have done very well going into the 2nd stage. While having an above average chip count, I felt that I had a huge psychological advantage over those opponents who may have payed attention to my tight play during the 1st stage. Also, my ultra tight game mode was already in gear so there was no reason to adjust away from the re-buy risky play mentality.
Always plan to double add-on.

I would like to also point out that complaining about the risky 1st stage style of play is not doing anyone any good. Calling everyone else names without a smile on your face is just rude and bad sportsmanship.

The number of chips granted for a rebuy/addon varies somewhat from one site to another, and one must adjust accordingly. Subject to those considerations, the standard strategy is simple enough:-

Budget adequately for a rebuy tournament. You must assume that the cost will be at least 3x the buyin (ideally: Start, 1x rebuy, 1x addon). If this seems too expensive, do not enter. Some sites (example – Ultimate) allow a double rebuy and a double addon in some rebuy tournaments, in which case your investment will be 5x the buyin (although a better plan here [since the addon is larger] might be one rebuy and two addons for 4x in total). Ensure that you know the structure beforehand.

You should rebuy as soon as the rules permit and then seek to double up. The objective is to have reached at least 4x the starting stack by the end of the rebuy period, ie. starting chips + 1 rebuy x 2.

During the addon period, it may be better to save the money if you are not doing well and the extra chips will not put you in the upper half. At the other extreme, it is arguably unnecessary to spend more if you are doing well and are already among the top 10 percent. In all other circumstances, take the addon.
