Questions about Omaha.......... Now please don't laugh at me, you can count on one hand the number of Omaha games I've played---Now, yesterday in the US vs Cananda challenge I gave it a try and once I had Ah-as one of my pkt cards and the board showed 4 hearts, don't I have a heart flush to the A? I lost to 2 pair!? On another, I had pr Qs--the board showed Q-10-10---don't I have a full house?? I DID win the hand, but the mod said I had 3/Qs and my opponant had 3/10s---shouldn't I have had the boat?? There were other hands I was confused about, but those 2 should be enough for now--Tanx for any input.

In Omaha, you have to play EXACTLY 2 of your hole cards and EXACTLY 3 cards on the board. So, to make a flush, you need to have two suited cards in your hand, and 3 on the board. If you had QQxx and the board came QTT, then yes you do have a full house, but if you just had Qxxx and the board came QTTQ, then no you don't have a full house, you just have a set. As you can see below, when I got a Royal Flush, I was playing 2 cards in my hand and 3 on the board. Last edited by SAH89 : 13th September 2008 at 5:00 PM.

I don't play Omaha much either, but I have learned that you can only play 2 cards in your hand and only 3 from the board to make your best 5 card hand. I have to be very careful not to forget that, because my first time at the game, I thought I had a full house, but in reality only had two pair.

SAH89 hit the nail on the head. I had to learn this the hard was just like you brotha. lol. Remember that Omaha involves alot more luck than holdem, it basically becomes a game of who wins coinflips at a high level; and a game of luck at a low level. Its a blast to play though, GL!

If you look at individual hands, you can make a case for Omaha involving more luck than holdem since the nature of the game is such that the mathematical advantages and disadvantages are smaller, which means drawouts happen more often. On the other hand, it's also possible to argue that skill is a larger factor because the card holdings are more evenly distributed.

re: Questions about Omaha.......... poker Playing Oma-haha online is like playing Crazy Pineapple on steroids. Using one hole card to make your hand could be a whole 'new' game ... . Stars could end a 12,000 entry FR in 45 minutes ..... I find it hard to take it as a serious game since their is so much luck involved, especially PL or NL. It's a major part of the WDTC Tour. (W.orld D.onkey T.raining C.amp) Sure, there are strategies for playing a good Omaha game, but have never seen one of those online. Maybe at the high stakes games, but Omaha just seems to be the worst of the donkfests.

But really, Omaha is much more mathematical than Hold'em, because much of Omaha is playing the nuts and being able to calculate your probability of making them. This is especially true at the lower limits where people will go to the river with any two pair. Hold'em is more psychological and about reading opponents while Omaha is more mathematical and about knowing how often you will have the nuts (or at least realistically the nuts, ace high flush is good enough to call when the straight flush is possible :P). |

I really didn't understand the situation at all... but for the sack of you finding your mistake, lisen. Omaha is a game in which you get 4 cards in your hand, and you obligatorily have to use 2 of them to make the best card combination with 3 of the 5 cards on the board. The hands are the same in omaha as they are in texas. Hope that helped .

Omaha!!! In Omaha you must play two cards from your hand and three cards from the board for a total of five cards. If you only have one heart in your hand then you can not make a heart flush even if there is 5 hearts on the board as you must play two cards from your hand and can only play three cards from the board. There is Omaha high or Omaha high low. I like playing Omaha High low. Same game just you can play for low hand as well which consists of any cards from A to 8 Same rules apply tp low hands . 2 cards must be from your hand and the other three must come from the board. Hope this helps.

Well I think if you are going to play Horse you should at least have a fair knowledge of all five games. I see way to many people playing it and when it gets to 7 Stud, they don't know what to do so they end up losing a lot if not all of there stack.

You would think hold'em is a more psychological game, but I don't know thats up for debate. I think people omaha might float flops more than in hold em, especially when they have position. Its supposed to be a math matical game, but those super draws don't really come as often as you would want them to and with pot max raises preflop damn near every hand (sometimes repops, and repops on top of repops). It gets real psychological, because in 6 handed the nuts ain't common like in 10 handed, and omaha ain't as popular as holdem to be played 10 handed like that. Maybe they do on Pokerstars or full tilt, but I haven't seen it where I play, you'll see numerous 6 handed tables filled at each level and rarely 10 handeds go. So it can get pretty damn psychological too. Add in the fact that you have idiots that will raise you like they have the nuts with hands no where near the nuts. |
