Question about Omaha

I've played Omaha every once in a while for the past year or so but I've never really thought too much about how the strategy is different from hold em. That is until I read the Omaha guide on this site, which has helped me tremendously. Now to the question.

I was just wondering what are peoples personal preferences when it comes to playing hands with three of the same suit or three of the same number? Do you ever play them and in what circumstances? I usually just fold them but there has to be times when it is correct to play with them and I am looking for some help in that area. Thanks

3 of the same number like AAA2 I will throw most of the time. Omaha is a drawing game, not much to draw to when you have 3 of them. A lone pair of As won't win very often in this game.

3 of the same suit is different. If you still have a good hand like AKQx or for hi/lo A23x with 3 in the same suit you can still play it. The third in the suit will only drop your chances of hitting the flush about 2% so it doesn't change much how I will play it. I look at is as more that you will not likely see runner/runner for the flush but will play it the same if I get 4 to the flush on the flop.

I am just getting the hang of Omaha myself but I don't see how three of the same card could be good.

I'll play three or four of the same suit if they all can fit into a straight. I'll also play them if there are several limpers and I'm on the button. statisticaly you might be at a disadvantage but I've been winning with them.

Just my input...there is absolutly no experanced reasoning involved with it

This is what I wasn't too sure about. Thanks for that tidbit of info.

4 of the same suit drops it about 5% and that is enough for me to let it go most of the time preflop.

You can do the same math as in holdem. For every card that can help you multiply by 2 to find the odds. You know you lost one for your flush and it will drop it about 2%.

I play a lot of heads up omaha hi and lo and some tourny omaha but never cash.

Best advice i can give is throw 3 of kind in hnd and iit will invariably lose.
As far as 3 suited 4 suited goes it doesnt really matter so much as unless u have the ace on both you really dont want to be playing to hit flushes as they r tricky as far as higher flushes goes.

In hi you really want 4 connected crds and dont get tied to 2 pr or aces as they are usually beat if some1 betting into you.

In hl i suck unless it is hds up so wont talk on tht 1

I will point out flushes are worth nxt to nothing in omaha because unless you got ace high and villain has k high you dont win big pots unless you chasin to the river and then you usually have to pay too much to see the river anyway if you playing good players

even in these circumstances if the board has paired i will 90% of the time fold as 4 3 of the same card id fold even though on tilt ur 4th will cum out 99.999% time lol =]

Omaha hi/low as most know is a game about scooping, so if you have 3 of the same suit it depends on what they are, for instance A23 of hearts is playable while Q 9 6 or hearts isn't.

I would suggest that anyone interested in playing Omaha or Omaha hi/low get super system 2. There are great sections on Omaha there.
