pushing all in when smaller stack is all in 3 people left in SNG tourney. I have A 7 suited. Short stack goes all in around 500 chips, I had 4900, other guy had about 4400. Flop comes A 4 7 rainbow. I push all in. Middle stack guy says ?? Then says, "you shouldn't have done that. I was on a gutshot straight, what if he got a set?' I replied, "So if I think I have the best hand, I should just call all the way to showdown?" By now game ended, He busted me with AKh, he had 79o and flopped a 7 and 9. I never got his answer. Who was right?

His response is only valid if your bluffing semi-bluffing in my opinion. With a genuinely strong hand you want to bet him off his draws as you still dont want to lose any more if he bets when he hits! I think your right but only with a good hand. Maybe he mis-read u?

I would still want the shortstack to have the pot rather then the guy with 4400 chips. Chances are (if the he won) the shortstack would push again in the next hand or two and be out. If the other guy won he would have extra chips to push you around with.

This is a two edged sword, however I do understand his position, particularly as you didn't specify whether the small stack had gone all in as a result of being on one of the blinds vs. by choice. Ask yourself this: Which is worse, your letting the other big stack have $500 and take the guy out, or, the small stack draw out on you and triple up? There generally is an implied collusion in such situations, as small stacks can come back and bite you in the ass. I hate being bet out when I could have ended up taking out a player, and it is frustrating. And, on the "come back and bite you in the ass part," I had 135 chips and was blinded all in with 3H,5D in 4th position in a SNG, and taking me out would have put everyone into the money. AH KH JC flopped. The Button with AK clubs banged, the small blind and the other player folded. 10H turn, 5H river. I won the flush with my 3 of hearts, whereas one of the other players, who got bet out, would have taken me out with the JH. Six hands later, I was all-in with a pair of 9s, Mr. Banger and another player were in the hand, and the flop came 10, 9, J rainbow. Mr. Banger banged, the other player dropped. The turn was a 7, and the river an Ace. Mr. Banger had two pair (JJ,1010) against my trips, whereas the other player would have pulled a straight with his 6-8 suited and taken me out. I went on to win first place in the tournament, thanks to the guy who bet the other players out when I was all-in. Last edited by MoodyRiver : 16th January 2007 at 6:40 PM.

Theres a unwriten law that Pro`s go by, if theres an allin guy the other 2 Check it down, ive seen guys bet with just A high,so i fold and i would have had the Best hand, and the allin guy wins the pot,, you Also want to Eliminate players too, lots of players forget about that>>> buck

People say whatever they can to get under you skin in the end of a tourney. What he might of pushed on that gutshot and you coulda called. or he coulda checked and got a free card. You don't wanna give the shortstack free cards and therefor you played perfectly. I don't usually talk in a tournament unless I'm chidleader. And then it's to get more agressivness and easier pot's. Usually I follow this. Let my cards do the talking , I don't have to speak for them. |

I do see all the points made...and I agree somewhat..had I only had top pair, I'm not sure i'd have bet...but I had a hand yesterday where one guy was all in, and me and another player had ALOT of chips left we were first and second stack I think. Allin Player wins...BUT, I had second by a long shot, I certainly wish i had bet more.....
