Pot limit hold'm Everyone and his dog plays No Limit Hold'em these days, but anyone regularly play Pot Limit? The only times I played were a) when it was impossible to get onto the the NL Holdem play money sit+goes at Party (had a period where I decided to stay off the real money but needed a fix )... seemed to do OK there; wasn't really any different to the NL tourneys b) the cash games. Once. Don't know if I got a really tough table or something, but these guys were fierce, I got a few bad beats, and I lost 2 or 3 buy-ins in a row. Played pretty much the same technique as in NL, where I usually hold my own. I don't intend to play much pot limit hold'em, but compared to NL are there any differences in strategy, hand selection etc I should think about?

I play some PLHE rings. The best way to put it is: Play like "Limit" pre-flop, then like "No-Limit" the remainder. I think having a good grasp of Limit HE really helps you in PLHE. The call, raise, check-raise aspects of pre-flop play are important. Then onward, it's pretty much like NL. If you are having trouble with PLHE, I'd say try Limit for a while. Concentrate on getting good odds for yourself pre-flop and creating bad odds for others.

I read an article recently by Rafe Furst who won a WSOP bracelt in a PLHE event. He was saying that best strategy for PLHE tournaments is to be the re-raiser. A big difference with PLHE and NLHE tournaments is there are no antes in PLHE, this means in the later stages when you would expect antes to kick in, picking up the blinds doesn't provide the same value as in NLHE. In PLHE tourneys you want to limp in EP with strong hands which will help buld the pot and give someone else the oppertunity to raise. Once the action gets back around to you, you can then re-raise the pot. In MP/LP you want to look for those times when you can re-raise someone else's opening raise or raise a pot that has lots of limpers.

Pot Limit Holdem is my favorite, and I wish there were more PLH forum tourneys. I agree with TJ Cloutier that it's far more like No Limit, with protecting cards being a little more difficult, and a lot of cheaper flops for people who like to play connectors.
