Poker Software So I am nearing my highest BR total ever, and I am trying to learn from my past mistakes. Last time I was around this total, I dumped off almost 50% on a real bad run. I have been thinking that I may be able to soften the blow of bad cards with a program such as poker tracker. I mainly get my money from tournaments, but really enjoy the FR games (usually where I lose my money). So what does everyone think? I have done all of this without the use of poker software, but I seem to keep giving it back. Is the answer to stay off the FR cash tables? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Hurry I am losing it all back!!!

I really dont think a poker software will help you that much. I mean sure they tell ya if a guy is concidered to be good or bad, but you learn that in the first few hands with the person anyway... and they seem also to make some ppl really dependant on the programs... If you only play poker with those programs, then using them becomes second nature, and when you dont use it you just become confused... You dont know what to do from that point. If i were you i would just keep playing good, the same way you got back to your highest ever bankroll. Im guessing it took you some weeks or who knows how much to get it back. All you have to do is keep that mentality you had before and bring your best game. Goodluck! Now if you just really really want a program i suggest the same one sindri mentioned, the PT3, but as i mentioned before i dont recomend using anyone since i have a friend that the previous happened too.

It's really all about consistency you may lose a couple SnG's but in the long run if you play your game you will end up on top. I think UB poker software has predetermined hands not really a random card generator like they say. Good luck at the tables.

re: Poker Software Bankroll management is exactly what you need.Set a limit on how much you are willing to lose,Before you sit down and stick to your guns.If you lose your limit,($20 or so for example)stop playing and wait at least 2 hours or more, preferably 24hrs.

Chris Ferguson's challenge was an experiment in BR Management. I recommend that you give it a read: Chris Ferguson's Bankroll Management He covers setting limits and stepping down in games. I have heard a lot of talk that reducing game variance is key to building bankrolls while limiting losses. Most recommend to build up playing Single Table SnGs

And do you really think they could keep it quiet? |

re: Poker Software I still use the old Poker Tracker 2 + PAHUD combination. I started rebuilding from scratch and can't justify buying PT3 yet. BTW, what are the benefits of PT3 over PT2? Anything big besides support for Full Tilt Matrix tournaments which I'd hope would be in there. -Raymond

I would recommend Holdem Indicator, and also Poker Edge, haven't really used any other of the software, but Holdem indicator and other automatic odds calculators out there save a lot of time and it also collects stats about you and your opponents then classifies you as fish, rock or other symbols for different playing style. Poker Edge did give me quite some trouble on vista but not XP. it provides any available information on your opponents.

WOWZERS!!! YOu got some really lame-o answers on here. I hope some more of the Cardschat regs. come on here and help you out with some advice. All I can say is... why play games you're not beating? Why not stick with what works? Personally I make a point of specializing in one particular type of game,.. whether that by 9-plyr. turbo sngs or large-field MTT's, etc. If you have aspirations for playing FR then why not put some time in studying that? (so that you will be a winning player there). If you're playing FR or 6-MaxNL, I'd strongly suggest using either PT or HEM. I've gotta say some of the comments above about it are coming from some folks who really don't have a clue..... so why even bother commenting?

As a tight grinder of sorts I disagree with the stick to 1 game theory. It's boring playing the same cards all the time. Sure, mix up the cards a little, but you know what I mean. If you can mix in some SNG's and the occasional MTT to give you a chance at nice hit now and then. Pick tournaments that make sense for your bankroll and you have the time to play correctly to the end before starting. -Raymond

Anyways. Yes about 5 days now without playing at a cash table. Was able to make my first withdrawl after a 3rd place finish in a 6k G the other day. Also took down another tournament the same night which had 88 people. I feel like I can work on my game for MTT (I obv. have a lot to work on), I am however seeing the flaws in my game and doing my best to correct them. |
