Poker Situations

If you are a proper poker player you will always have a situatin where you are made to make a tricky decision either pre flop or post flop. These situations often happen when you get involved in a big pot with a hand like a q, say for example you raised in early position with a q off, you get called by two other opponents.
Lets say the flop came down q 4 7 with 2 hearts
You lead out for about 80% of the pot and get called by one of the two opponents.
the turn then comes a 5 of hearts, you check because of the scare card and you're opponent bets into you.
This is the situation you are in. You have to be thinking what hands you can beat and the only possible hands are say kq, qj. You're opponent could easily have a straight, flush or set to beat your hand.
There are many ways you can avoid this situation though,
1. you do not raise out of position pre flop with a hand like a q
2. you check the flop and make an easy fold on the turn as you have less chips committed.
3. You make a big bet on the flop so no draws are able to call and see a card.

Let me propose another option - I generally bet the turn here, since I don't have a reason to believe that he's got a made hand, and since he'll have to be worried that I do have a made hand.

This is read dependent - i.e., against some Villains I'll make this bet and others I won't.

I would like to add that draws don't scare away easily, i mean, if you moved all in on the flop, i might still call you with a draw because I know I'll get paid off if i hit, and maybe i have other outs as well, like i made a pair on the flop and could suck out and hit two pair, or three of a kind. Also if you shoved on the same draw as me, I'm ahead if i paired. Don't expect anyone to fold draws on the flop to you just because you bet big.

Well i agre with slycbnew i think bet the turn eliminate a possibility of bluffs by your opponent. I bet on the turn and make an easy fold if he raise my bet.

i would make a bet on the turn, see what he does, if he goes all in, maybe i fold, depends how big is the pot and how much i have left.

anyway i am not too worried about the straith here, who calls a raise with 6 8 or 3 6, even if they are suited.
so i think the best play is to bet.

You don't have to expect them to fold. All you have to do is bet enough they are getting -EV.

If you have a made hand that is not likely to improve, and you know you are being drawn against, by all means, bet a lot.

Top two vs. flush draw? Get it all in on the turn when the FD whiffs. TpTk in a multi-way pot with draws? BET BIG! Math is your only ally here. If you can't make your opponent fold when you have the best of it, make it so they're not getting the correct odds (direct or implied) to call.

You are drawing pretty thin to a made flush. Remember, there are three hearts on the board in the example. While a made straight is less likely, you could expect open ended with a pair to be not impossible by the turn.

That gives 13 outs to improve.
