Poker odds question #1

I'm going to try to post a simple pot odds/implied odds question for the intermediate player like myself to keep up his practice every other day or so from now on.
Feel free to answer the question with the math to show how you did it.

Question #1 (10/20 LHE):
(don't consider implied odds for this one, i'll start out simple)
You're in late position of a 4-way pot (including both blinds) with QTo
Flop: A-J-4 rainbow
1st player bets and all call to you

What is your move based on pot odds and why?

if you need hand odds, or odds information:
Nice outs/odds chart

Ok, so there is $25 in the pot on the flop

The limits of the game would suggest the players are of a decent standard, so its probably safe to rule out any premium hands or middle wired pair

On the flop, you have an inside straight draw with no overcards to the board, giving you a minimum of 4 outs - chances of hitting your straight are roughly 14% before the turn.

If I am on the button, there will be another $30 in the pot before it gets round to me, making the a pot total of $55, with me adding $10, taking it to $65. The odds are very marginal, its like pot gives me 20% odds, compared to my 15% chances of hitting.

Given the amount of time players have to react, I would imagine the majoiry of players will call in this situation

Getting to the implied odds? Obviously pot odds will change along the way, and it depends on the turn card

Nice thread

what i meant was that both blinds call the raise, so to clarify there should be $80 ($20*4) in the pot before the flop

indeed....i miscalculated when i made this (it is 7 in the mornin here)lol
i accidentally counted the Big blind as 20 instead which would explain why you get twice the odds needed
i'll make the next one better...i swear!

I like isolating direct odds as a way of teaching people how to consider hand odds vs pot odds, but I think it's important to stress that implied odds are a critical part of determining correct plays in limit and that assessing them is a skill you have to develop to be a profitable player.
